Planning a trip to Riga? Cheap place, friendly people, no trouble. right? WRONG! Oh my god. Ive now travelled all over the world, and this place is the biggest rip off in the world. A 5 minute taxi ride = 8 Lats (8 pounds, 12 Euros), this was not just one taxi, this was every taxi. This is with or without the meter. Also, beer = 1.5-3 Lats, London prices my friends. Nightclub entrance, 5 Lats, what do the locals pay? 0.5 Lats. This is also the unfriendliest place i have EVER been to. I heard about the bad reputation this place had before i went, i just thought i could avoid several wallet lootings, but there was no reasoning with these unfriendly eastern european idiots. Why go to Eastern Europe, when your going to be paying Barcelona/Milan/London prices? And to top it off, random attacks for no reason on my english counterparts left us all feeling very very angry. Any help from the police? Bouncers? Absolutly no chance! This place will be a flash in the pan as for as tourism is concerned, and once this places bad reputation catches up, the rip off bars, taxis, restaurants, hotels and everyone else can go back to working in a factory for zero money. I strongly advise you to go elsewhere.

i would say from only a 5 min experiance that strip clubs are off the table unless your in a big big group....
we didnt intentionaly go to one (honest), we were on route from one pub to another, anyway, needed a pee, and not being in england thought it was best to give a bit of respect and go to a toilet. went down these stairs into what we thought was a pub, turns out to be a strip joint, the bouncer then locked the doors behinds us, when we asked the sexy lady where the toilets were, she told us we couldnt go unless we had a drink, which was fair i suppose, although the alarm bells rang when she said we would get a free drink if we go into the strip lounge, noticing a lack of customers and a very smelly bouncer behind us,we lituaraly had to barge our way back up and through the doors, had we been more drunk and stupid, may then have took a seat and im sure bad things would have followed..

Sorry I can't remember the name of this place but I know it's on Grecinieku Street and it's opposite Dickens the English pub.
It's a really groovy place, the foods tasty and served until quite late. There's lots of cocktails on the menu and it's pretty cheap.
Most of all I love the deco! It's fun and colourful!
The music is good, we were there on a Saturday night and there was a live band!
Dress Code: There didn't appear to be a dress code.

For a great end to a hard day, a visit to the Skyline Bar is recommended. The bar is located at the top of the Reval Hotel, on the 26th floor. It offers a wonderful panoramic view of Riga, so make sure you find a table by the large windows to enjoy spectacular sunsets. The bar is a mixture of wood, steel and glass, with very comfortable sofas mixing in with chairs and stools, comfy pillows and relaxing music.
Dress Code: Although no dress code is enforced, the bar is usualy crowded with business people, hotel customers and well dressed crowd so an effort to look smart is always appreciated.

If you are looking for a Lively Bar then a good bet is "The Dickens" Right in the centre of the Old Town, Populated with a good mix of locals and tourists, A pint of local beer is less than £2 + it has a good range of imported beers, a little more expensive but still hardly a rip off !! Don't miss it !!

All goods things come to an end, having been to Riga the capital of Latvia a few times. I thought I’d found the perfect European city, cheap booze good action, clubs you get the idea.
Since joining the EU things have gone down hill, what’s new!
Capitalism has hit, cash is king and guess who’s sat on the throne? British lads on stag and *** up weekends.
It starts at the airport, a normal taxis ride should be 6 pounds to the city. Guess what the meter is off and suddenly its 15 pounds at your hotel!
Hit the clubs, locals great two pounds to get in, speak English 5 pounds please. Nice!
Drinks are starting to hit London prices, corona 4 pounds a bottle. Local beer is cheap but can be nasty though.
I did speak to some lads that had been hit hard, one paid 109 pounds for one drink for a girl in a lapdancing club (she must have been good!) Russian gorillas make sure you don’t even think of legging it.
A Swedish bloke got tucked up 160 quid for a lighter!
Arses for going to lapdancing professionals what do they expect, lets go and chat up normal chicks. Right, hit the bars; get the eye, ‘I’m in here’! Slide over and make your move “ Hi sweetie want a drink?” of course she does a 10 quid cocktail, what do you expect a lady to have, a pint of cheap Russian *** beer?
The birds are doing the rounds too, seems they want some of the action. Stroke your ego and your wallet for drinks all night and they can drink believe me!
Suddenly “ooh got to catch the bus” quick peck on the cheek and bye, sucker.
You can’t even smoke in the clubs, standing out side having a fag in minus 20 degrees, should make anyone give up.
To sum up greedy locals have you marked as a walking wallet, my advice save the airfare and hit Nottingham, Newcastle etc. At least you know what your in for, and no nasty surprises!

this place is a definitely "date bar." But no matter what it is unique and defintiely should be stopped into when in Riga. They have an awesome drink menu. They mainly center on mixed drinks and wines, so if you're going in there for a Budweiser, you're kind of out of place. One thing I did notice is the martinis were HUGE, and even though it took 2 times ordering to finally get a good rum and diet coke, the waitresses are friendly. You'll also find interesting that there are sofas to sit in as opposed to the usually uncomfortable barroom furniture you've gotten used to over the years.

If you would like to meet chics, I found the best place was to approach groups of girls at the beer gardens, forget the clubs, it's a waste of time unless you dig married chics and dudes. The club is where you go after you meet the chic. Also, I wasn't there for very long, but it seems when you approach them that it gets awkward or they get abbrasive for a few minutes, but then after around 20 minutes they warm up to you and are cool.
Dress Code: Dress respectable of course, don't look as though you just got done changing the oil on your car
