Velvet: International travelers bar

Well, Velvet is the place to go.

All foreigners in Riga will go to Velvet so you will never feel alone in this beautiful city......You can imagine that if all foreigners get there, all girls that like Foreigners get there...

Velvet is a restaurant and a bar that has a nice dancefloor.

The food is quite good and presented in french nouvelle cuisine style but at very reasonable prices.

You should not get there before 23:00.

What really suprised me at first glance was that I saw men of 50 or 60 years old dancing and having fun.....I asked myself where am I???

Then I talked to some Latvians and Russians and they told me, for you age is really important, for us not.

In Switzerland where I live I would not at 32, be able to flirt with many girls of 20, they would tell me to go to hell!! Believe me in Latvia it is feasible without a doubt, moreover the standing will be far higher than any Western country.

The music you will listen in Velvet is pure commercial. I.e. Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Lopez, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Michael Gray - The Weekend, etc.

The price for the pind of beer is very inexpensive, around 2 Euros.

At week-ends they charte 3 Euros for the entrance and they close at 4 o' clock. During weekdays, it's free entrance.

Dress Code: As you want but please no shorts or trainers.

Old Riga by night

Now this view is even more impressive than the last one. This picture was taken from the west river bank, the Daugava River. You can already notice mnay monuments that are iluminated. The Old Riga is full of interesting and important monuments that are very interesting to visit either during the night or day.

Daugava River by night

This is the view of New Riga from the old town. You can see the Vansu brigde and the new building on the other side (west side).
Its very nice both to see Riga from the new part towards the old and vice-versa. Its gives you a better sense of how the city has grown.

Bastion Hill or Bastejkalns

The Bastion Hill or Bastejkalns is the small hill close to the Pilsetas Kanals in front of the Powder Tower. During the night this is full of youngters smoking and having fun with boy/girlfriends, drinking etc...
This ruins are the remains of one of the bastions of Riga fortifications.

In Riga are enough of clubs for all tastes. There are places with Latvian music, with Russian music, with disco music as well as jazz and blues places.
Mostly all clubs are open till the very morning or until the last client.
Most of them are located in Old Town, so you can find them very easy. But in that case you will meet a lot of foreigners in there and if you want to see how locals is having fun you have to look for the place away from center of the city.

Here you'l find a kind of disco pub, with a dance floor, a pair of bars, tables...
It's usually full of young people.

Carneval to honour The 5th element

Well, The place for gays and persons which don't fear to be sooooo close to a gay :))). Staff is wide open for any sexual orientation.

Ok, I didn't feel my self in this place comfort, just 'cause of questioning glances to me, but in general that was interesting. Good music and bartenders perfomance. Quite sexy interior, with plenty of small cabines and dark hall. Guess that pros will know how to use them.

Dress Code: Hm, I wisited the spot wearing my jeans and T shirt. Not realu sure that there is some dress code, but could be face control.

Girls - it depends from taste....

While during day light it is treated as a upmarket restaurant in the evenings it turns aout for one of the poshest Nightclubs in Riga. They swears that their shows which are aimed for men and for women in thursdays are the best in the city. Well - tastes are diferent, but thats clear, it is worth to visit. Music varies from House disco to pop. Entrance which should be paid just from 22.00 till 5.00 morning is 30 EUR, so the prices are the same. Think I don't have to warn men about danger of popsies whic would be eager to have a coctail in your company :)) - the bill would be steep as Twin Towers in Malaysia :))

Dress Code: no sportswears just have a heavy pocket :)

Irish Pub in Riga, Latvia

Youngest Irish pub in the city - survided change of owners and gained more than lost from it. You can choose your beer from almost 30 available and have a meal from Irish specialities to Latvian chef's favorites. Thursdays are for live music.English, German speaking staff. Great place to celebrate traditional Irish festivals. Suffers a bit from teenagers, but staff are good in fighting them :). If you are tired from drinking and eating then little cellar with dance floor is for you. Works from 11.00 until last Irish leaves the pub. I feel my self like Irish after few Guinness pints :-). Who doesn't ?

Dress Code: No drescode, feel free to relax in tuxedo or sportswear.
