This must be my favourite of places where I ate, and I went here twice during my short visit to Riga. Both times I had potato pancake with chicken and bacon, which is also served with salad. The meal was 3.40 Ls and a Latvian beer, 0.5 litres, was 1.50 Ls (December 2008). Other things you will find on the menu are salads, soups, wraps and pizzas.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the music good. Both times I was here I sat in a comfortable sofa reading a book while finishing the beer.

This restaurant was absolutely amazing. Kindlelights on every table and live pianomusic created the perfect athmosphere. When the pianoplayer took a break excellent chosen music like 'Can you feel the love tonight' by Elton John was played. We were treated as royalty and the food was delicious. The wine also! If you want a romantic evening I cannot think of a better choice than 'Seasons*. Be sure to order three courses! The restaurant has also won several awards.
Favorite Dish: We ordered salad as our first course and it was the best salad I've ever tasted. Every bit had the most wonderful taste...What amazed me the most was how the three courses worked so well together.

This restaurant is definitely overrated ("The best in the city") and food is definitely overpriced. I dined in Vincents several times and would give it 4 points out of 5 for cuisine and 3 points out of 5 for service, in average, without considering prices. Prices: seared tuna costs $32 -compare it with $19 for seared salmon in Belleville, French cuisine, on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, portion of grilled lamb costs $55 - and it's $21 for lamb filet mignon in Belleville. (There is something wrong when a single serving costs about one quarter of a common Latvian monthly pension)
This September we tried to get a dinner at Vincents and were surprised by unprofessional treatment from a waiter who did not greet us, but instead asked us "what do you want?" We even had to repeat our request for a table since he did not understand it. The chef has not answered an e-mail regarding my complaint.
The restaurant was made famous by its celebrity clientele, that leads me to believe that they appreciate only senators and princes as customers. So, if you are not the Queen or a President, avoid this place, what you get here is not worth your big bucks.

The most unfriendly staff in al of Riga, when you ask something they just look at you and wont give you an answer???????? So I pointed on the pastrys I wanted (I took two one for me and one for my wife) she gave me both pasterys on a small tee cup plate and one napkin, I asked for one more napkin she turn and went away????? Ok that was the pasterys to get some soft drinks we had to go to an other counter because she went away. Same thing there no a f*¨¨*in word from the woman behind the couter??

Favorite Dish: I was so upset so I didnt eat my pastery I just took a sip of my soft drink and left.

Double Coffee is a chain cafeteria with good variety of little something, like sandwiches, breakfasts, pancakes, milk shakes, coffee, drinks...
Their menu is like a colorful newspaper with photos, so you can actually see what they have. What is really good in this place is that the portions are exactly like the photos in the menu, if not better looking.
I can not recall the price level of this cafeteria, but for sure it is more expensive than local cafeterias.
Favorite Dish: Anything on the Menu. The only con is that this is not local food, but a good choice.

This is a throw back to the 1960's with a vengance The only clue to it's whereabouts outside is a bright lellow Lemon on a sign with the word John in the middle - Inside you will find five tables along one wall with padded benches either side and a bar/counter in one corner that makes you think about turning round and walking out - DONT.
The young lady serving speaks very good english and the service is excellent - The food is cheap compared with a lot of other establishments in the area but plentiful and tasty with a choice of various pancakes pizzas soups and deserts.
Favorite Dish: My friend and I had a dish of Goulash a hot Hungarian Meat & vegtable soup that comes with a seperate dish of sour cream and some bread. At a cost of 2.60 lat (about£3.00) it was delicious and filling as well as warming in weather of minus 6outside. We enjoyed it so much we went back the next day for more of the same . Stays open into the early hours of the morning - Highly recommend.

As you walk through the glass entrance that provides the only natural light to the restaurant, you enter a warm world of wood, stone and glass. The potential unfriendliness of bare brick and rough plastered walls is successfully offset by exposed wooden beams, ventilation running through polished wooden conduits, and locally hand crafted stained glass lampshades. A carved wooden partition separates the smoking and non-smoking areas and provides some intimacy for those who end up with tables in the center of the restaurant. The overall effect is of a warm and comfortable environment.
The combination of eye-catching wine list, friendly service and great food makes the place your home away from home in Riga.
PS Free WiFi available, barman knows the code.
Favorite Dish: I highly recommend Duck breast with plum and soy sauce, served on bok choi. The potential for disasters in a dish like this are endless – neither bok choi nor duck will tolerate overcooking or waiting around, and everyone uses too much soy sauce. Despite my misgivings the duck was great. The meat was done to perfection and with just the right proportion of tasty fat left attached. The bok choi stems were cooked just beyond the point of still being crunchy, the leaves were not overcooked to a mush, and the sauce was a wonderfully sweet, almost syrupy accompaniment, tasting of plums with just a hint of soy in the background.

The line between pubs and restaurants not exactly clear here, this one called pub and looks and served more like a restaurant, anyhow, I had some nice local food here but don’t ask me how it was called.

I had wanted to make sure that one night at least we had a special meal in a nice restaurant and so we went to this place in the Old Town. It's in a side street so probably gets missed if you're not looking out for it.
It is quite classic, table cloths, pastel pinks and subdued lighting. It is a little bit retro/dated in some respects but has an excellent menu of international food. Apparently a favourite of ex-pats this place didn't seem as touristy as it could be given its location.
Staff are very friendly and attentive and food came out relatively fast, though this is the kind of place you'll want to spend time in.
Favorite Dish: Starters were my first ever experience of snails which came piping hot in a great garlic butter sauce. Nice but a few of them were a little gritty. Creamy tomato and basil soup got the thumbs up from the soup expert.
Veal steak with spring onion jelly and potato pancake (11.60 lats) was lovely. I went for fish, Greenland flitch with wonton and shrimp on a bed of baked vegetables and rice (11.00 lats). Both dishes were pretty as well as tasty.
Unfortunately the desserts weren't very imaginitive, but the Philadelphia cheesecake was nice (4.40 lats)
Wines were mostly 12.00 lats a bottle but we decided to go for local beers at 2.00 lats.
