Laima Clock, Riga

The Laima Clock stands at the corner of Brivibas and Aspazijas (in front of the Freedom Monument). The yellow-brown clock has been a meeting place since it was made in the year of 1924.

"Satiksimies pie Laimas pulkstena!" ("Let's meet at the Laima clock!") or "Randins pie Laimas pulkstena!" ("Rendezvous at the Laima clock!") - these are very typical phrases for latvians. We all are arranging there a lot of meetings :-)))
And this yellow-brown clock in front of the Freedom Monument has been a meeting place since it was erected by social democrats in 1924.
For decades it has advertised Laima chocolate(the best chocolate in Latvia!), and sweet romance has started here. :-)
The Laima clock was recently repaired and it's time now is synchronised twice a day by satelite.

Hard to say for me why Laima clock is famous in Riga, but anyway it was nice to see how it looks. This clock was donated by Laima chocolate manufacturer, and the main thing people like it as it is famous meeting place in Riga centre, near Freedom monument. This clock was built in first half of 20th century.

Typical rendezvous place for everyone. If you want to meet somebody in Riga, than say, let’s meet at Laima clock and everything will be clear. The name, which is on the clock, comes from Latvian chocolate producing company. But from the beginning it wasn’t typical meeting place, in the past century it was built by request of representatives of parties in parliament, so that people in the morning won’t be late for their work.

This is a popular meeting place for the people of Riga. The chocolet and confectionary company "Laima" is one of the oldest in Riga. Particulary young people meet here and the clock is often used in commercials in Latvia.

The Laima Clock sits at the entrance to the Old Town on Kalku iela. I was told that this is a spot where groups choose to meet due to its central and open location.
