From the busy international airport bus #22 runs to the city. It leaves from the back of the carpark, follow the signs. Cost (2006) is just 0.2 lats, pay the conductor, journey takes around 20 mins. For the city get off just after crossing the river as it continues to the bus / rail stations and then a little further.

To purchase a ticket on, for example, a trolleybus, simply get on through any of the doors.
You can then either wait for a very old man / lady to approach you, or when you remember their uniforms, have 20 Santims (0.20 Lats) ready and give it to them in exchange for an orange ticket.
This 20 Santimes is a flat fee for 1 stop or 10 stops along any one route.

There are various methods of public transport whilst in Riga
- Bus
- Trolleybus
- Tram
They are all very frequent and you don't have to wait long for the next one to arrive - we didn't wait more than 5 mins.
The one thing that was confusing was the routes for public transport don't seem to follow any real grand plan. It can be hard to work out how to get from one side of Riga to the other using, for instance, the trolleybuses.

Riga has a very modern airport that serves as the main gateway to the Baltics!
Air Baltic is a very good LOW COST airline that connects Scandinavia, London and Ireland to Eastern European destinations including Ukraine, Crimea and Istanbul! Recommended

Trams around riga cost only 0.20L the equivilant of 20p in UK money, you cant beat it. You can get to most places around Riga by tram. Not the prettiest of trams, very much like ones I have seen in budapest but well worth 0.20L to ride to the city on

Riga has it's own international airport. The airport is half an hour from the citycentre by bus. It's a rather small airport but very convenient and easy to get around at.
Scheduled services are plentifull, Air Baltic operates to most mayor European destinations. Prices are very competitive.
Ryanair and Easyjet also operate into Riga. Easyjet has scheduled services to Berlin and Ryanair serves, Frankfurt-Hahn, Tampere, Stockholm, London Stansted, Liverpool and Dublin.
Connections to Eastern-Europe (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine) are available as well. Long-Range traffic is limited to New York and Tashkent. Several European airlines fly into Riga. With Latvia getting a real hotspot the airport is expanding very rapidly and connections are increasing all the time, the amount of passengers almost doubled over the last year.

Busses are modern and drive frequently, though they can be completely stuffed in the morning.
Rides cost 0,20Lats and tikes are bought at the conductor in the bus, they will usually come for you to sell you the ticket. Changing busses or trams requires a new ticket.

There is the bus stop in front of the arriving level at Riga Airport. You only have to cross the parking place and see the bus station. Bus line is 22 or 22A (Expressbus) to the City center. The normal bus runs every 20 min and cost 0,20 Lats. The Express bus is not running so often and cost 0,25 Lats. You buy the bus tickets inside the bus. Sometimes you have to pay extra fee for luggage.

You can travel by plane from a lot of european cities to Riga. The homecarrier AirBaltic connects Riga with a lot of european cities and Istanbul in Turkey. Also the low cost Airlines Ryanair (since November 2004) and Easyjet provide cheep flights to and from Riga. The Airport has a brand new terminal and is very convinient. With a public bus line in front of the parking place you can get in 25 min to the City Center. Bus line 22.

We took a taxi to our hotel from the airport, because we thought it was more comfortable than using a bus because of our luggage. There is a taxi queue outside the arrivals hall and even though the queue may seem long it will move rather quickly. The taxis there are red Renault Scenics and they are completely reliable. A taxi ride to the old town costs around 7 Ls. For our return journey our hotel booked us a taxi and it cost around 10 Ls.
