Armani Riga: Armani and, well, pornography really

by kranstonakov

The only shop of any value that i saw was the armani boutique, but still it was poor by western standards. Outdated stock and more expensiove than the Kings Road. If your in Latvia, the best thing to get is good pornography, theres mountains of the stuff and its top quality. Latvian girls outnumber men 4 -1 and they aint the richest in Europe. Really good stuff. You can 'try before you buy' in most places, with a delightful cublicle, complete with dvd player, screen and a locked door.Avoid the shopping malls, you will loose all respect for latvians when you see what they are forced to buy and wear! Porn, preferably german, russian or of course latvian. dirt cheap.

Souvenier Shopping in Riga: All things Amber

by Shetlandshake

Breaking you head about what to bring home to your family to give them the taste of Latvia? What else but AMBER! In the old town and Riga in general you will find many shops that sell amber. some are more expensive than others. I bought some from the carts by St. Peter's church and they weren't terribly expensive, but overpriced for sure. I only had a short time to shop so I didn't have time to search out the best price. Even though I probably got ripped off, the prices were still better than I would have payed for these necklaces, bracelets and amber knick knacks in the US. Little amber trees make wonderful gifts. Ranging between 2 and 20 lats they are very pretty and your friends and family will sure appreciate them. Also figurines such as knomes and hedgehogs. Very very cute! And of course, JEWELRY! Walk around, compare prices.

Jana seta: Travelbooks

by Turska

That shop is full of travelbooks!I was like a kid in candy-store first time I got there. If you collect travelbooks as I,you must go there. They also make their own maps, and the maps are very good also.Ther are books in different languages, many in English and some in German. For a Finn it´s a cheap shop, but in Finland we have quite expensive books. Those Eyewidnes-travelbooks costs in Finland about 28-38euros,I bought there those in 17euros.There were also books from places, you can´t find from Finland. For example Seville or Edinburg-books I haven´t found any in Finland. The website is allmost only about maps. In this shop you can buy only books and maps, but elsewere you should buy shoes, they are good and cheap. Many people buy amber-jewellery,but I hate them! In this bookshop there are maps and travelbooks so much, that you can buy with a lati,or spend 50lati..Cheapest books I have bought...

Stockman: Artichokes and milk

by mirime

It is big, and it is good, plus it is next to the railway station and to the bus station, so it is one of the only places where i buy mandarines and all else i need for survival. You can find all kinds of pasta and pesto, if you look well.

Local Market Shopping

by William1982

The obvious choice for shopping in Riga is the local market. It appears by the local bus station and even has shops in a row of old aircraft hangars. Clothing is quite cheap (check out the customary fashion item biker jackets) and essential items like beer can also be bought (-: There's a meat market and dairy market, so all tastes are catered for. Central Market: Inside the Central Market

by Dabs

OK, I'm giving my husband the "hurry up and take the shot already" face but I'm posting the pic anyways so you can see the inside of the central market. The women behind me working the counters had these cute lace hats or rings on their heads.

Central Market: Shopping in the Zeppelin hangars

by Dabs

There's a little bit of everything underneath these 5 zeppelin hangars but it is mostly every type of food imaginable-fish (you can smell that at least one hangar over!), meat, produce, dairy and candies. All we came back with was some Russian chocolates but you really should go for the experience of being in a huge bustling market with all the local folks.

various: Antique stores

by Dabs

We wandered into several antique stores in the new section of town, some were priced very highly but we found one with old Soviet stuff-Moscow olympic stuff, tea holders, pins, hats, Lenin busts, etc.I bought a couple of Misha figurines (the Moscow Olympic bear mascot), several new compacts with Russian designs on them, some Soviet pins and an old US advertising tin.
