I travelled to the three Baltic States on the one trip. I travelled to Vilnius by plane and then went from Vilnius to Riga by bus and again by bus from Riga to Tallinn. I ordered my bus tickets in advance from Eurolines by e-mail (info@eurolines.lt & www.eurolines.li )and picked up and paid for them when I arrived in Vilnius. Eurolines operate nice buses throughout the Baltic’s (as everywhere) The fares are very reasonable also. The whole journey, Vilnius – Riga – Tallinn cost 90 litu ( £Ir 20). Train travel in the Baltic’s is not so good. The service is infrequent and journeys take much longer The journey to Riga lasted 5 hours, but there were 2 stops so it was ok and you got to see a lot of countryside. The Bus station is right in the centre of Riga, close to the Railway Station.Riga is not a very large City and you can easily walk anywhere you want to go to in the City. There is a good...

I took a bus from Kaunas in 1995, and in 1997 I passed through Riga by train on my way to Tallinn. The bus was a little dicey, being filled with Russian smugglers of 'spiritus' at the Lithuanian/Latvian border. So far as I have heard, nothing has changed in this regard. The smugglers may ask you to help them hide their wares at the border crossing (don't do it). It is indeed miraculous what a vast quantity of smuggled goods they managed to 'hide' in such a small space, but by the cursory search of the customs officials I gathered that there was some sort of 'understanding.'Old town Riga may be seen entirely by foot, there's not really any reason to use public transport.

Never take a taxi. They are all trickers... Traleybus or Tramway is a better way to get around in Riga. Don't forget that they don't care if you have an ISIC card or no, it's the same price for everyone: 0.20Lats

Latvian Express

by LanaFromRiga

If you are from St.Petersbourg or Moscow you have to take Latvian Express trains. Only there you can enjoy tea from such stylish and historical glases like in the picture.
