Sabile Wine Hill

Sabile Wine Hill is officially the world’s most northern vineyard, as mentioned in Guiness World Records Book. You can actually taste the wine at the entrance of this vineyard but don't expect too much of it. The Wine Hill itself is far more to enjoy - you walk there, taste the grapes. Walk uphill and enjoy the view of Sabile town.

An interesting place to visit is the open air art museum at Pedvale, offering sulptures and other art projects in an great outdoors setting.
Worth a visit, being different than the usual countryside parks.

Stretch of Abava valley near Maraskambari caves

...enjoying the scenery: hills, forests, more open stretches of countryside, where the fields are maintained in a traditional way, offering a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Not just for those who are interested in geology - the caves were formed naturally in the sandstone cliffs that can be found in the middle section of Abava valley.

Pleasant forest walk to get there.

Abava valley offers a great deal of sports activities, ragning from cycling, hiking, horseriding and canoeing in summer to skiing in winter. The valley loor and the hilltops offer some good cross-country skiing, but less known is that some of the hills like Makiskalns and Kalmarkalns (both near sabile) also offer good downhill skiing!
