Mikela lighthouse / Mikela baka

by Inguuna

It's worth to see the lighthouse, to ascend the stairs and enjoy the beautiful panorama. The weather wasn't good, when I was there, but it says that in sunny day one can already see Saaremaa, but who knows. There is no elevator in the lighthouse, so the big sense is to your physical strength, but I know the way how you can forgive about climbing - you must count the steps, it helps me :). In this lighthouse are about 300 steps! The lighthouse was built in the end of 19th century, but for some reasons, it was rebuilt many times. It is the highest in Latvia.

Irbene radiolocator

by Inguuna

This is one of grandiose military objects' which left Russian army, and which was located in the past army town. The feelings are quite strange when you go to the radiolocator, because in that town nobody lives today and many-storey buildings give spooky town impression. This forth largest radiolocator in Europe once was used for interception of radio communications. And you can make a reservation, if you'll call in advance.

Very small waterfall and ruins near river Riva

by Inguuna

The renewed wooden bridge is crossing river Riva which flows there. And near it you can see ruins of 18th century old mill. Later here were also spirit distillery, wool factory and during past century electricity was also produced here. Today you can also see small waterfall here.

Steep bank of Jurkalne

by Inguuna

The coastline of Latvia is interesting to see because it differs in many places. In Jurkalne an impressive steep bank is twenty meters high. And if you climb down it’s not so easy to climb up, but it’s worth to do it. It's located between Jurkalne and Ulmale, but the best view is in Jurkalne. Despite it was June when I was there, it was cold, but the water was very clean probably because I didn’t see anyone swimming there :)
