Staedtle is the name of the main-street of Liechtenstein and there you will find most of the attractions for the tourists :
The townhall with some great frescos in the facade
Various famous works of art displayed in the street
The National museum, the stamp-museum next to the tourist-office, the Art-museum Liechtenstein, the Government-building and at the very end St.Florin cathedral with the princely vaults.
Be prepared of extra-high prices in the cafes and restaurants in that street !

The red house in Vaduz is one of the oldest buildings and you will find it high above the village, in a distance of 200meters from the main-street (Herrengasse) - it is best to take the small tourist-train in order to see it. Next to it you may see a small vinyard that belongs to the Princely Wine-cellars . The tourist-train makes a short stop of 10 minutes at the red house and you will have enough time to take some pictures there !

St.Florin cathedral looks great already from outside. Take a look inside as well, you may see a rather simple gothic church and a nice altar with woodcarvings. The most beautiful detail is in my opinion the princely balcony and the great organ.
Don't miss the princely vault / Fuerstliche Gruft next to St.Florin cathedral !!
Church-service is each sunday at 09.30a.m.
and it will also be broadcasted on TV at the local station !

    by globetrott, 4 more photos
Great and expensive works of contemporary art may be seen at many places in the centre of Vaduz, mainly along Staedtle / the pedestrian area:
On my pictures you may see:
    1) "Figure in a shelter" 1983 by Henry Moore - at the end of the street, close to the cathedral
    2) "Ruhende Frau" 1993 by Fernando Botero - in front of the Kunstmuseum
    3) "Hochsitz" 2003 by Robert Indermaur
    4) "Tre Cavalli" 2002 by Nag Arnoldi - in front of the townhall
    5) a monument that was nowhere explained , all the other monuments had an inscription , but this one did not...

The Landesmuseum of Liechtenstein will show you mainly exhibits about the long history and the interesting nature of Liechtenstein. Besides this there are also various changing exhibitions - take a look at their web-page below !
Hundreds of years ago the Fuerst of Liechtenstein got certain priviledges by the Austrian court and because of the special place of the county these priviledges remained unchanged untill nowadays. The borderline between Austria and Liechtenstein is high above Vaduz in the almost un-reachable mountains, without any connecting road.
The Liechtensteiner Landesmuseum in Vaduz is open
    daily except monday 10.00a.m.-05.00p.m.
every Wednesday it is even open untill 08.00p.m.
    The entrance-fee is 8sfr
holders of the "Erlebnispass Liechtenstein" have free entry !

The Fuerstliche Gruft / Princely Vault is next to the cathedral St.Florin and unfortunately you may just see it from outside. There you may first see several arches and when you get closer you may at least see a great entrance-gate, decorated with a scene of the holy Bible and the princely coat of arms on top. That gate was made by the italian Carmelo Puzzolo in 1992 and shows the awakening of Lazarus.

    Vaduz

The interior of the governement-building in Vaduz is off limits for tourists, BUT it looks really great from outside with lovely decorations and ornaments in the facade. Liechtenstein is just a tiny country with 160 km2 and 33.000 inhabitants living in one of the 11 small villages around Vaduz. Austrian and Swiss officers are in charge of the customs-formalities, the currency is the Swiss Franc and Liechtenstein is part of the EWR-treaty.
The Fuerst is the head of the state and he is also Austrian citizen with a castle south of Vienna and a palais in the centre of Vienna. Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna looks a lot more impressive than the castle or any other government-building in Vaduz

    great frescos at the townhall
    of Vaduz

The townhall in Vaduz is one of the buildings with the most interesting facade in Vaduz. It looks almost like an old castle with the wooden covers next to the windows, BUT in fact the townhall was just built in 1932 and decorated with frescos by Johannes Troyer. I think it is one of the most beautiful buildings in Vaduz anyway and a lot more interesting than all of the other modern architecture without any kind of phantasy shown in the facades.
Walk around the townhall, some of the best decorations are at the backside !!

The castle of Liechtenstein is still inhabited by the Fuerst and his family and it is off-limits for the tourists. You may drive up the mountain and take a closer look from outside, that is all. Unfortunately the castle-facade was under reconstruction, while I stayed in Vaduz last time, therefor I did not drive any closer to the castle.
I was working in Liechtenstein in 1979 and It was interesting for me to see the differences, not only in the quality of photography and style of cars....

    Triesenberg

The significant local collection of cultural history of the Walser community that settled in the 13th century presents a new exhibition on topography, the history of the Walser population, parish history, religious customs, machinery for the timber, cattle and agricultural industry and the “Maiensäss hut”, a small time-honored alpine hut. An impressive multi-media slide show on Triesenberg and the alpine region of Liechtenstein rounds off the exhibition nicely.

If you want to learn more about the history of the Walser read here:
    http://www.wir-walser.ch/en/walser/history/index.html

Triesenberg can be reached by car or easily with the public bus, leaving downtown Vaduz.

Most other museums in Liechteinstein are located in Vaduz, see more tips on my page there.
