The tourist-train will take you around the small town of Vaduz, giving you explanations in various languages, a fact that means that you mostly will not get the informations in the right moment, when you pass by the sights, except you are able to understand the text in various languages. The best advantage of the train is that you will not have to search for the Red House on your own, but you will be taken there and will have some time to get out and take your picture. You will finally pass through the country-side of Vaduz, next to the big stadium and large woods in the south . the price is 9 sfr and the ride takes 35 minutes. They will start at the large bus-parking behind the Townhall - you will find there also a place to powder your nose... The tour will take you through Aeulestrasse - Staedtle - red house - stadium but NOT to the castle !! Below you will find the web-page for the public buses of Liechtenstein ! Unfortunately just in German ! Leave a Comment

Sticking the Vignette on the front window by Pieter11 When you are travelling to Liechtenstein by car or motorbike, please remind that you will always need an Autobahn-vignette for the highways in Austria and/or Switzerland. Most of the times you will enter Liechtenstein coming from Switzerland. For this country, the vignets are only sold per year: € 28,10 per year (in 2007). When you (also) cross Austria during your travel to the small country you (also) need a vignette. In Austria they are sold in three types: 10 days for € 8,75, 2 months for € 22,95 and a full year for € 73,75. Both the vignets can be bought at the border crossings, or in advance at specific places all over Europe, mostly tourist agencies. You stick the sticker on the front window of your car, and an electronical laser will check if you have the correct one while you are entering the country. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

The Postal Buses go just about anywhere in Liechtenstein. The schedules emanate from Vaduz. They are pretty inexpensive, by Swiss standards - remember, this country is almost an extension of the Swiss confederation, at least pricewise! Nearest train stations are in Feldkirch, Austria - a very interesting town in its own right - and Buchs, Switzerland - both towns which have bus connections to Vaduz. For information on schedules and prices for both the trains and buses - in German: www.lba.li for the buses www.sbb.ch for trains in Switzerland Leave a Comment

We drove into Liechtenstein from Eastern Switzerland, I knew that when we crossed the river we would enter the country but if I hadn't I probably wouldn't have even noticed that we entered a new country. Entering from Austria is another story, they have a real border guard there and I believe some kind of toll but we turned around before we got to the border. Driving around Liechtenstein was a breeze, the country is not very large, 16 miles long and 4 miles wide so it's hard to get lost as at some point you run out of country! My mother looking out of the bus. by Pakistaniguy It is a very unique country without any airport or a railway station so you have to get yourself on to this Liechtenstein bus either from Austria or Switzerland in order to come here. But once you are in this small country the bus network is pretty good and it will take you to all the corners of Liechtenstein. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

by sourbugger The railway may run through the principality, but only an irregular local train servive that uses : Schaan-Vaduz, Forst Hilti, Nendeln, and Schaanwald. To make up for this Liechensteins's bus service has been sub-contracted to the Swiss postbus system. Now, that's what I call sensible outsourcing - it is run with ruthless Swiss efficiency. A bus arriving is not a matter of chance or circumstance but as reliable method of setting your watch, and you never get three turn up at once ! There are about 11 routes plus special buses to the nearby train stations in Austria/ Switzerland that recieve eurocity trains and a seasonal skibus. Leave a Comment

Airport station - quick transfer by sourbugger Finding room for an airport in such a tiny country is no mean feat, especially when it is in the alps - and they havn't. Most travellers will use Zurich airport in Switzerland, which has good connections to the principality. As an alternative, the closest airport is actually 65kms away in Germany. Friedrichshafen airport has several flights coming in from German cities, Prague, and a very useful daily flight on Ryanair from Stansted London. Transfers by rail need a few connections, but it passes off smoothly with effortless German / Austian / Swiss efficiency . (depending on route) Th Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane
