Pizza chains are quite popular in the Baltic states. In Kaunas we tried Pizza Jazz, which was even founded there.
The Pizza chain has 6 branches in the city and we once went to the most central located one at Laisves aleja 68.
They have an outdoor seating area facing the busy shopping street. The interior is kept functional and clean, but doesn't offer anything special.
Of course the menu is dominated by all sorts of pizzas, which come in two sizes. Several other dishes like fish, meat or pasta meals are available as well.
I opted for the Pizza Parma with aubergines and dark olives. It was quite filling, yummy and cost only 17,00 Litas (about 5,20 Euro, 2006). Berneliu Uzeiga is a traditional Lithuanian restaurant chain. We visited the restaurant in K. Donelaicio gatve 11 during a VT meeting which was also attended by hospitality club members.
The interior of the restaurant is decorated in a traditional cosy style. As it was a warm summer day we prefered to sit outside on a wooden roofed terrace.
Lithuanian dishes dominate the menu. Among them is of course "Cepelinai", a Lithuanian national food consisting of grated potatoes and meat.
Nevertheless, I opted for a traditional pork dish with potatoes and salad, which was quite filling and yummy. On our last evening in Kaunas we only wanted to get us a small dish. As it was a bit rainy we deceided for the Miesto Sodas restaurant, which has a large glass gallery.
The big windows and the glass gallery offer good views of the adjacent city garden (Miesto Sodas) and the busy Laisves aleja shopping street.
The interior of the restaurant is modern and spacy with bright colours. In summer the large outdoor terrace is open.
Several international dishes and a salad bar are available. I opted for an Asian style rice dish and a Pint of Svyturys beer, which was tasty. Due to the excellent location of the restaurant, prices are probably a bit higher than average. Staff is friendly and helpful. At the end of our VT meeting, just before midnight we popped into the Restaurant Senieji Rusiai.
Of course at this time of the night we didn't have anything to eat there but just a couple of drinks.
So I can't really comment on the food, but it is said that the menu offers reasonably priced European Dishes.
Senieji Rusiai means "Old Cellars" and in fact the whole restaurant consists of several rooms in a 17th century red brick cellar. As we were almost alone in the restaurant we had the chance to have a look at the nicely decorated rooms which are well worth seeing. On our first evening in Kaunas we were quite tired from a whole day of travelling with flight and train journey.
However, we were starving for dinner, so after checking in at our hotel we directly went to find something to eat.
Just around the corner from our hotel we found the outdoor terrace of the Restaurant Metropolis pleasing.
The restaurant itself doesn't seem to get too good reviews in most travel guides, but the outdoor terrace offers nice views of the busy Laisves aleja with its fountain.
The menu offers all sorts of international meals. I ordered roast pork on a spit with boiled rice and salad. To drink I had a pint of local Kalnapilis beer.
Honestly speaking I can't complain about the dish, although it was nothing special and the prices were probably a bit higher than average. Looks like really nice place. Inside lot of sits, but design makes feeling it is really comfort.
What is more, it is just near some nice places and museum, so it is convenient to nosh here.
I am really satisfacted by pizzas in this place. I have bought a big one pizza and my friend did the same. Waitress said it is 50% discount if the bought two big pizzas, so we paid twice less.
One more thing, if you had been in Vytautas the Great museum, you can show the ticket to waitress and one more discount comes - 10% for all food. Choose one of their Italian, Lithuanian or mexican pizzas. They are really yummy :) Or better yet choose your own toppings.

This dessert bar is really an outstanding one :
1) they serve various kinds of desserts, coffee and tea;
2) various meals as well;
3) the interior design is very special with unique photos and paintings, many thoughtful details like little candles, little flowers on the tables and so on;
4) the menu in English is available!
I love coming to this dessert bar quite often to enjoy my favourite hot-straight-from-the-oven apple pie with caramel!!!
If you order that cake you will have to wait approximately for 20 minutes for it to be ready but it's worth waiting!!

Pizza Jazz is a family owned Lithuanian pizza chain which started here in Kaunas. It's open since 1993 and with every day it grows bigger and more adored by hungry pizza lovers:) They have branch in Latvia (Riga) as well.
What especially I love about this pizzeria is that they never stop on improving their work methods, the quality of the food and service. They have proactive approach to the customers and are strong at marketing while positioning their brand (my marketing education took over lol :) ]
"Pizza jazz" is a sponsor of many jazz concerts and every winter on their birthday they present ice-sculptures exposition for Kaunas people just in front of their restaurant, which attracts from kids to grown-ups...
Of course, pizza is great food to enjoy there, but there are also lots of other dishes like salads and meat meals. The dessert bar with Italian style coffees and wine choice makes your stay in the restaurant complete:)

By the way, notice to Italians - in Lithuania they do offer ketchup with pizza but in "Pizza jazz" they at least don't put it on the pizza top so you can add it if you like only :) Leave a Comment

This Latvian self-service restaurant chain entered Lithuanian market some years ago and was accepted with great enthusiasm.. Maybe because we didn't have any strong brand of self-service restaurants before them.
So if you wish to have a not expensive lunch and shop in the hypermarket at the same time, come to "Lido" in Savanoriu avenue in Kaunas. Other restaurants of Lido are located are in Vilnius and other Lithuanian cities.
You can create your own menu and take all what you want.
The specific symbol of "Lido" is wind-mills (as you can see reflection of it in the photo) and the interior design resembles the wooden tavern.
