 MY BLACKBERRIES CAKE by matcrazy1
1. Warm cake of curd with strawberries sauce - 5.00 Lt,
2. beer ice-cream - 6.00 Lt,
3. strawberries cake with strawberries in ourselves juice - 6.00 lt,
4. flaky dessert "mosaic" - orange jelly, grapes jelly, whipped cream, ice-cream, preserved pineapples, preserved peaches, strawberries sauce - 7.00 lt.
Add various ice-creams.
I ordered blackberries cake with blackberries in ourselves juice for 6.00 Lt (€ 1.81 ;US$ 2.55; 8.40 Polish zl) and it tasted yummy. It's my recommendation :-).

 CREPES WITH CHICKEN AND

Urszula ordered crepes with chicken and sauce of mushrooms for 7.00 Lt (€ 2.11 ;US$ 2.55; 9.80 Polish zl) and they tasted good. It's my recommendation :-) although I preferred sweet crepes with fruits and sauce of berries.

At first sight it was nothing special just casual breakfast buffet of buns, eggs, fruit, jam, ham, coffee and tea etc. I liked especially Lithuanian dark bread, sweet buns and the only one kind of soft cheese.

Senieji Rusiai restaurant offered also four kinds of "Lietuviskas midus" (Lithuanian special mead- balsam) I didn't taste (prices per 40 ml):
1. Zalgiris 75% - 12.00 Lt,
2. Suktinis 50% - 4.00 Lt,
3. Grizta Vyrai 40% - 4.00 Lt,
4. Sventine 30% - 4.00 Lt.
Did you ever drink 75% alcoholic drink? Hmm... I didn't.
Large glass (0.5 l = 16.91 oz) of Utenos beer (Alus Utenas Auksinis) costed 5.00 Lt (€ 1.5; US$ 1.83; 7.00 Polish zl).

There were two areas of restaurants in Kaunas, I can recommend:
1. Old Town (Senamiestis) - at Town Hall Square (Rotuses aikste) and along Vilniaus gatve especially; add small streets nearby.
2. New Town (Naujamiestis) - along main walking street called Laisves aleja especially.
TOP 3 RESTAURANTS, I visited:
1. Berneliu Uzeiga - Lithuanian countryside food;
2. Medziotoju Uzeiga - hunters' restaurant;
3. Senieji Rusiai - international cousine.
All were located in the Old Town, number 2 and 3 were expensive as for Lithuania.
FOR BUDGET VISITORS
1. Lithuanian traditional dishes: ceburekai, spurga (donuts), pyrageliai (potato buns) etc. available at street vendors;
2. Lithuanian soups including cold red beet soup (Saltibarsciai);
3. Lithuanian traditional "cepelinai" (dumplings) often NOT available in upclass restaurants;
4. Lithuanian crepes/pancakes;
5. Lithuanian beers including my favourite Svyturys beer.
Well, after good breakfast you can eventually skip lunch.
FOR OTHERS
1. meat dishes: elk, boar, venison
2. salmon
3. good wines.
DIET AND VEGE FOOD
Look for salads, chicken, fish dishes and ask exactly about addings/side dishes served.

Our waiter could speak English. He was serious and fast. They accepted credit cards at least of Visa and Eurocard/Mastercard system.
Excuse, I didn't eat there but I enjoyed the place, music live and Svyturys (my recommendation) and Utenos beer. There was good choice of French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and American wines.

Spurga? What was that?
Spurga were Lithuanian different donuts filled with minced meat, cabbage, mushrooms etc.
Spurga:
- su mesa (with meat - 1.00 Lt)
- su sonine (? - 1.00 Lt)
- su bulvemis (with potatoes - 0.70 Lt)
- su grybais (with mushrooms - 1.00 Lt)
- su kopustais (with cabbage - 0.60 Lt).
Personally I liked those ones with meat and with mushrooms - my recommendation :-).

Almost all traditional Lithuanian dishes. They restaurant network has very cosy restaurants. Very nice traditional and at the same modern surroundings. Good interrior, food. In summer outside there's always a playground for kids and you can sit also outside.
I prefer the one that is in Silainiai distrcit (street: Baltu prospektas). But there're few smaller in the center (Donelaicio and Valanciaus street).
To get to Baltu prospektase: Public transport: from the center you should wait for minivan no. 35. In about 25 minutes you'll be there. After it goes up the mountain, makes a circle, passes trough big shop Maxima, turns left next to the bridge, on the left side you see a shop, you should get your butt out right there.
