Instead of coming back to from Kedainiai to Vilnius with one bus, I took bus to Kaunas (3,18 euros one way, 2007 August) and later from Kaunas train to Vilnius was taken. The bus station in Kedainiai is under reconstruction now (they build new one in real), so here is temporal very small bus station at this moment.
Coming back to Vilnius through Kaunas is good choice as well, because buses Kedainiai-Vilnius go only a few times per day. Train Kedainiai-Vilnius is quite rare as well; the one in the evening is only at about 8 PM. What is more, it is good possibility to see more Kaunas too or to make day trip from Kaunas to Kedainiai with bus.

The train to Kedainiai could be possible if you take train Vilnius-Klaipeda or Vilnius-Siauliai. I took the first one, as it goes everyday. The train was very convenient; it started to move from Vilnius train station at about 6.45 AM and arrived to Kedainiai at 8.23 AM. The one way ticket Vilnius-Kedainiai costs 5,50 Euro, but for students, pensioners there are 50 % discount all year, for youth (till 26 years old) - 50 % discount only in summertime.

I got to Kedainai by my car driving there from Poland.
WHERE IS IT ?
7 km west of the main south - north highway E67. Turn to Kedainiai on the half of a way from Kaunas to Panavezys.
E67 leads from Suwalki (Poland) via Kaunas (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia) to Tallin, Estonia and further by a ferry to Helsinki, Finland. This highway is called Via Baltica and mostly of very good quality, partly still renovated.
The closest to Kedainai larger cities are Kaunas to the south and Panavezys to the north - both located along Via Baltica, each at a driving distance approx. 50 km to Kedainiai.

You can get to Kedainiai by train or bus as well.
Buses I saw on the way to Kedainiai from Kaunas were mostly old or very old (Ikarus) but it changes... look at the largest Lithuanian bus company called Kautra. Keep in mind that the average speed of local buses (with numerous bus stops) is below 50 km/h. They go faster between Vilnius and Kaunas though.
The international train Riga, Latvia - Vilnius - Kiev - Simferopol (Ukraine) stops in Kedainiai. Trains are mostly slooow: they go over 1 hour from Kaunas and almost 2 hours from Vilnius. Just in case, check European Train Timetable

There were two bridges over Nevezis River in Kedainiai. The one (more to the west) for cars and this one on my picture exclusively for pedastrians. It was located at the end of main town street - Didzioji.
Well, the old town was located on south of the river. Church of Saint George was the only tourist atraction on the oposite side of the river. But... authentic local, more rural life is always the best attraction for me and it's easy to observe just along the northern bank of the Nevezis River.

If you want to come to a main town street called Didzioji from a square where St. Joseph Roman catholic church is located go to north-west corner of the square. You will see this passage and gate on my picture. The Didzioji Street is just behind it.

It's located on eastern side of the street in its southern-middle part. You will rich the square where the church is located.

I found driving around Kedainiai very easy as there was no traffic when I was there in the afternoon of Saturday. Well, there were some streets closed to traffic in strict old town and a few one way streets, but there were almost no cars there.

This crossroads on my picture was the best orientation point for drivers passing through Kedainiai and looking for the old town.
I made this picture standing face to the north on Gedimino g. (street) with the Russian orthodox church on my left, straight there was main street of the town called Didzioji. The transverse way was the highway 229 (J. Basanaviciaus g.): Panavezys (to left) and Kaunas (to right). Check on the map, follow the link below.

Most of the main street called Didzioji was closed to traffic. A few streets of the old town were signed as on my picture (enlarge please). It was the beginning of the zone of no parking from 7.00 am to 8.00 pm.
The gate on my picture was put up by the former Calvinist church.

There were a lot of place to park a car both along streets and on parking lots in Kedainiai. Look at the northern end of the main town street called Didzioji. There was no traffic and never ending parking places :-), not so easy to find in Europe nowadays.
I parked my car at its end just by the tourist information office which was... closed.
