    Stora Antis / Tolstaya Utka - The Fat Duck: Cozy, Quiet, and GOOD!

    by Rickmo Updated Jun 29, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    This unique little restaurant has a glass door that takes you down a few steps into a beautiful small area (it has private room for small parties to the right). It was originally an underground storage area. It advertises Slavic Food - so much of the menu is devoted to Russian, Moldovan, Ukrainian, etc, dishes - Still, it does offer some local types of food, and has several different dishes (like a really good american-style steak). Its main dish is a turkey dish (hence, The Fat Duck) that was quite similar to an American Thanksgiving meal - complete with a berry/cranberry sauce/stuffing. The music is usually eclectic, and is played quietly in the backround - you can relax and talk here - no thumping bass. All the famous russian musicians and actors stop here when they visit Klaipeda - you can see pictures of them all across the entrance wall. This restaurant is a must for those looking for a quiet little nook to relax in while in the city center.

    Favorite Dish: If you want to try some authentic russian food - it's got plenty! I especially like the potato pancake dish - as it reminds me of my childhood. They offer a wide range of meat, fish, and other foods and salads, along with a number of unusual appetizers.

    "Memelis": Brewery and nice location

    by aterola Written Jun 15, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The pub is in the downtown of Klaipeda, on the bank of the river Dane, and it is in very old storehouse. It has three floors, on the third floor is kind of night club. "memelis" offer program, caraoke, competitions, latin evenings, please, check their website for details.
    Food is OK, but not the best in dowtown, but they have own brewery, so you can taste their fresh made beer. You can stay also outside on terase.

    Favorite Dish: food is ok

  • Boogie Woogie: The best pizza in Eurpoe? (my son thinks so)

    by bassmount1 Written Feb 9, 2007

    Boogie Woogie to me was as close to an American style restaurant in the area. It reminded me of Applebee's or Ruby Tuesdays in the decor and food. It has a nice atmosphere and really felt as if we were "at home" there. The wait staff was awesome and the food was pretty good too! This was one of our favorite places to eat while there. Be sure to check out the Elvis memorabilia on the wall.

    Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the Chicken Cordon Blue, but my youngest son swears they offer the best pizza in all of Europe. They even offer a close to American apple pie dessert that was pretty good.

    Alaus Darykla Restoranas Memelis: Beer Restaurant in an Old Warehouse Building

    Old Brewery Building
    2 more images

    This rather new restaurant is in an about 100 years old former warehouse building. In warm weather you can even sit outside not far from the Dane river.

    Favorite Dish: I was there for the beer and had to it a snack (boiled peas with hot cracklings), snacks of this type (tasty!) are very popular to the beer in Lithuania and Latvia. But they offer quite a lot good dishes, the menu is also in English and German.

    Navalis restaurant: They can make almost everything... :)

    by Aspati Written Jul 15, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    And so.... I work there so I won't tell you about how good it is as I don't like this kind of restaurans (maybe ecause i work there... )

    So waiters are very friendly and has good sense of humor (almost are are men only 1 girl in restaurant (that's me)). Every monday, wednesday and Friday there are playing piano during lunch but at all other times music is quite awful but you can ask to change it as they have many cds and aditionaly they can take cds from cafe (where i work as well). If you can't find what you'd like or it is too expensive you can ask for cafe menu. There is sushi menu as well. So sort of food that is easy to make is not included to the menu but you can ask (like cream with berries or tomato salat). If you hurry ask for day menu (waiter will tell you because it is not writen).

    Difference between restaurant and cafe is menu (but you can order from both) and quality f service (better service in restaurant but more cosy atmosphere in cafe)

    Favorite Dish: As we eat the same guests of restaureant i can tell that I like:
    Soup: Any cream soup;
    Main course: Any fish (All pepers in food are fresly picked (they import green leaves and put it directly to the food so it has great taste), potatoes but just Jukon or smashed, risoto with sea food (as i don't like sea food but I like risoto I just take away all sea food);
    Salat: Cesar (I hate mozarella salat) or chicken liver salat;
    Sweet things: Brownie and all smasher fruit coctails.
    I like all those because i like what is light and fresh...

    Cili kaimas: Lithuanian food?

    by aterola Written May 5, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Cili kaimas restaurant

    It is good place to taste Lithuanian national food in national atmosphere. If you decide to eat "Cepelinai", please, ask if they can make half of portion, because "Cepelinai" are always two on the plate, and because it is specific food for foreigners, it can be too much for one person ;-) Of course, you can eat there also some other food. You will get long meniu also in English.

    Favorite Dish: I don't have my favorite dish there, everything is good ;-)

    Smoked Fish!

    by lotharlerch Updated Apr 14, 2005

    1 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    mmmmmmmmmm.....

    All the places where fish is smoked, for example right in the centre of Nida. Eat the smoked fish as long as it is still warm, it is really delicious. I was in the lucky situation to have my own white wine (Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling) from Austria with me, so it was really the top..

    Buru Uzeiga, Old Town Klaipeda

    This is where to go for Lithuanian food. Wonderfully rustic, reasonably priced local fare.

    Favorite Dish: I had a piquant meat salad and a potato pancake with shredded meat. Extremely tasty. And don't forget to try the wonderful local beer in klaipeda.

    Senoji Hansa: Another good open-air restaurant

    Senoji Hansa

    It seems that in summer there's quite a good weather in Klaipeda... or I've been quite lucky, I don't know, anyway when the weather is fine it's also quite hot, so it's really nice to have dinner on the outside.
    This is a nice restaurant, set between the theatre square and the Jazz Club.
    You will find some good local food at cheap prices, and the usual fresh and good Švyturys beer! ;-)

    Kurpiai Jazz Restaurant: Don't miss this place!

    by Carletto76 Written Sep 7, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The Jazz Club

    It's always nice to listen to some good Jazz music, and Lithuanians love jazz quite a lot... but it's even better if you do it while eating some very good typical food, maybe outside if the weather is hot, or inside a very well furnished typical old house... All of that is not a dream, but reality at the Jazz Club in Klaipeda! It's really a beautiful place, both food and music are simply GREAT, one of the best restaurants I've been along the Baltic!

    Favorite Dish: I'm a bit sorry about it, since it's an animal I like a lot, but here at the Jazz Club I discovered that the BEAVER is not only nice, but really GOOD! ;-)
    And they have a good "motto" on their menue:
    "save the trees, eat the beaver!" ;-)

    pizzeria

    At late night it was quite difficult to find a decent place for pizza in an unknown city, so tried entering couple of open bars and asking for some directions. In one bar we were lucky to be told about pizzeria "yellow submarine" which was not so far. And that's how we found it:)

    Favorite Dish: We had pizza and some chicken meals, all was tasty but looked quite strange because of the blue light in the pizzeria.. Seems like this is a place loved by young people.

    by mayflower Written Aug 26, 2002

    They have a thing called HBH, ask anybody about it and they will tell you how to get there. It's some time driving from Klaipeda. It's a big restaurant, everything there is made of plaine wood and has some kind of medieval appeal. There is also a playground for kids (and adults play there also) and the whole place is awesome.

    Favorite Dish: They have national dishes there and be sure to try zeppelini - meat wrapped in potatoes, I can't explain it much, but it's one of the tastiest things I ever had! I wish I knew how to cook it...
