Many people spend lots of time at the beach during their holidays in Palanga. While having sunbaths you'll hear some voices shouting: "hot meal", "ice cream", "cold beer"... Of course, it will be in Lithuanian. But if you see a man or a girl carrying a big bag and offering something, feel free to raise a hand or just go and to ask does he/she has what you need.

Language - Zemaiciu
Where are four tips of Lithuanian language dialects: Aukstaiciu, Zemaiciu, Dzuku and Suvalku. Of course, the most popular is systematized Lithuanian language, that is traditionally learned in school.
Zemaiciu dialect is a dominant in Palanga region. It is one of the most archaic language in the World. Quite interesting to hear how people talk, sometimes I can't understand what they are talking about though I am Lithuanian :) Few times I heard that they understand Latvian better than traditional Lithuanian language.
Looking for Amber?!?!
Legend has it the the amber stones are actually pieces of the Sea goddess Jurate's underwater palace, which was destroyed by perkunas, the god of thunder, when he found out that Jurate had fallen in love with kastytis, amortal fisherman. A sculpture depicting this legend can be found near the Palanga bridge. Near the central path of the Botanical Park is the famous sculpture of Egle, the legendary wife of a sea-serpent.
In Palanga the tourism didn't damage the original identity of town, and the well preserved houses are siting side by side with the new esplanades
