Palanga has a shop of so called MAXIMA's supermarket network. This one is not the biggest, but enough for this resort. Probably now it is the biggest shop in Palanga. Good, when you want to safe a bit money, buying food in shop, but not going to restaurants, bar.
What to buy: The biggest interest is a food, especially for breakfast.

You'll find lots of souvenirs to buy in the main street of Palanga - Basanavicius St. There you'll find lots of souvenirs, postcards, gifts, jewelry, etc.
What to buy: A must buy in Palanga is a jewelry from the amber. Lithuanian seaside is well known because of the golden amber from the historic times. Sometimes it's possible to find little pieces of amber at the sea shores, especially after the storm.

If you are on a low budget or want to buy some snaks, beverages, ingredients for cooking, go to the big shops, supermarkets. IKI - is a little bit outside the center, but you can get there. There's Media supermarket and another smaller one (I don't remember the name) on the main street, close to the bus station.
Then there's a small market (baazar type) where local people sell fresh fruit or whatever typical for the season, if you need strawberries, that's the place to go!

Street or Folk art shops
What to buy: Amber is called Lithuanian gold. These "stones" come from the bottom of the sea and have a long history behind. See the "things to do" tips. Long story short: there are many people selling amber jewelries, pictures with amber and other amber things on the street. a) it's better to buy with someone who is local talking instead of you, some sellers still do the trick "he is a foreigner, so he/she can pay more" or look for the written , fixed prices. you can try to bargain. b) good amber jewelry can be find in the folk-art/craft shops, sometimes even nicer and cheaper. While amber is labeled as a Lithuanian gold, to tell the truth you'll find it in Estonia, Latvia and Kalliningrad region too. Being patriotic I should say our crafts-men are the best.
The last tip: amber costs a lot in Western Europe, buying it here you will really save the money.

What to buy: ...this way your souvenirs must include amber souvenirs.
There are many street shops with lots of very beautiful amber crafts.
There are also other typical souvenirs, as woodcrafts, clothes, and ceramics, but the most of them are just in amber.
The price of souvenirs is not expensive.
