Temple of St Maria

Mini temple of St Maria, hewed in one rock, near a mount, where Lithuanian pagans offered prayers for gods of the Sun, the Moon, the Thunderer and so on from VII century.

In the present time there a temple of Birutes was built.

You can see a natural surroundings of forests, parks and sea from there.

It was builded in 1897. The park near this palace was created in 1848 and it is the most beautiful and most expensive park in Lithuania.

The palace has a very big museum of amber found in Lithuania. Entrance costs about 5 lt for adult and cheaper for child.

Birute Hill

Birute hill is located in the south west of the Amber Museum. This hill has a romantic history. It used to be a pagan sanctuary and the observatory of celestial bodies. Today it is a peaceful and quiet place, especially popular among infatuated couples. At the foot of the hill there is a Lurd initiated by earl Tiskevicius. In summertime poetry readings are held here. From the top of Birute hill you can enjoy a broad sea panorama.

Amber museum - Tiskevicius Estate

If you asked me what's my favorite and the most interesting museum in Lithuania I'd say: Amber museum in Palanga. It does not taste like a boring museum and it's stunning. First: it's in a botanical park, second- It's in the estate of 19th century, third - it houses the biggest collection of amber in the Baltic (25.000 pieces, 15.000 of which with insects trapped inside), fourth - the biggest collection of incluzes (insects from pre historical time tucked in amber, while it was still hot and before it went to the see). fifth-It's in awesome botanical park with swans, lovely landscapes, pools.Botanical park was designed by French landscape artist Edward Andre' in the 19th century. Statue of Christ in front of the mansion house (where is amber museum now) was replaced in 1993. Gardens and this estate was one of the most famous and the best even among French estate gardens in 19th century. I love this place .. Behind the museum is a rose garden. further Birute hill.

Going up the pier

Before the sunset crowds of people move to the main bridge (Pier) to watch the sun go down, it's a must when you're there. Now the bridge is fully reconstructed and you can go far to the sea. in day time you can watch volleyball matches from there or just the beach and the sea, at night after the sun goes down it's very nicely illuminated and is really a romantic place.
Sometimes when the late evening is with a fog, ok, what to hide here - when it's night - it's really beautiful. when you go further you don't see the shore because of the fog, seems you're in the middle of the sea.In few words: place for dates, sunset and one of the attractions.

The Baltic Sea

Peak of the season is August. The Baltic Sea is quite cold around 18 *C degrees, which means very refresing! Apart this fact it's also salty and has beautiful waves with lots of foam. It's in the West, so you can watch the sunset at the sea, when the sun falls directly into it.
