Birute who was the mother of Vytautas the Great was apparently a virgin priestess at the pagan temple which stood on this hill. Today there is a chapel on the hill. The hill is also very popular for photographs with the sea in the background. There is only one spot where these pictures can be taken and sometimes a few people are waiting to take the shot.

This is a bridge into sea, originally built as pier by count Tiškevièius (he planned a port here). Later it was decided not to build a port due to shallow waters, but the "bridge" remained. It became a spot for romantic walks at the evening to see the sun coming down into sea. The original 100 year-old bridge was damaged over the time, in last it's years it wasn't even possible to reach the end. Thus, a new bridge was built in it's place. Posts of old bridge could be seen at right while walking on the new bridge.

In this museum many pieces of amber are shown. Also, history of amber is written. Exponated pieces includes ones with various fossils, also very large ones.
Building itself, which stands in the Botanical Garden (look above), was once a manor built by count Tiškevièius. Later (after WW2) Russians desecrated the manor. It was rebuilt as a museum of amber, in the first hall some things owned by the count are also shown. Most of explainations bellow items are in Lithuanian and Russian (because they weren't changed since times of Russian occupation), but at some places new explanations in English and German were added.
Around the manor, there are also interesting things to see - some fountains, many flowers, and also a statue of Blessing Christ, which was imploded by Russians and now rebuilt.

This large garden, planted by count Tiškevièius, has a huge variety of trees and bushes. This is a very calm place. There are two lakes with various birds, also an island in one of lakes. Also, there is flower room and amber museum (explained separately). This is the best place if you want just to walk calmly. Beach is also not far.

Kurhauzas - the first hotel of Palanga. Built by count Tiškevièius, it was the start of a resort town. At start it was much smaller and only had wooden building, later brick building was also attached. Considered usually the center of Palanga, as there two main streets - Vytauto and Basanavièiaus - crosses. Building wasn't used for it's original purpose for quite a long time however - there was cafeteria, slot machines inside, also some exhibitions. Building was also damaged by fire in year 2002, but there are plans to completely renovate it.

This is a beautiful and rare amber museum. You should never fail to visit it when you come to Palanga. It is a very pleasant experience to listen to a concert in summer here.
