First time when I just started to create this page, I had a trip with parents and I think we went just directly from Vilnius to Palanga through Kaunas and Klaipeda.
Last time I was using car traveling to Sventoji. The route from Vilnius was enlarged, as I wanted also to see Nemunas bank small towns (Veliuona, Vytenai...). In other case, it is just possible to go Vilnius - Kaunas - Klaipeda autobahn, later take road to North through Palanga. For a day a trip to Palanga was made just directly already from Sventoji (about 10 km away to South).
Palanga airport is only 5 km from the town center. There are direct flights to Palanga from Hamburgh, Oslo, Billund, Kristianstad, Frankfurt, Berlin and Moscow.
Schedule and prices information:
The only map I've seen in Palanga was at the bus station. I haven't seen it somewhere else, so if you have a digital photo camera perhaps the best way is to photograph and to have it always with you in case you don't know the direction;-)
The nearest seaport is Klaipeda (25 km from Palanga). Ferry lines connect Klaipeda with Karlshamn and Ahus ports in Sweden, Kyl, Mukran (Sassnitz) and Travemiunde ports in Germany, Aarhus and Aabernaa ports in Denmark. Buses from Klaipeda to Palanga go every 15 minutes.
Palanga can be reached by frequent minibus from Klaipeda or Express and other buses from other Lithuanian towns. There are also direct connetions into some surrounding countries.
Palanga also has an international airport.
Although municipality of Palanga is not large, it is quite long and thus there are 3 bus routes inside it. First two are travelling through city from south to north and back, while the third rides from Palanga to the airport and Šventoji - other resort town. First two routes are operated by small mini-buses, mostly used Mercedes Benz ones. The route to Šventoji is operated by Neoplan buses. All routes are operated by VlaSava company. Costs are 3 Litas in summer and 2 Litas other times for Palanga-Šventoji bus, and 1 Litas always for inside Palanga buses. All buses appears in various colours.
Palanga International airport serves two resort towns of Palanga and Ðventoji and also port city of Klaipëda (third largest city in Lithuania). It is second largest airport by the numbers of passengers in Lithuania. This airport is more active in summer because of the fact it is in resort town. In winter destinations are the same as from Kaunas Karmëlava International Airport, but in summer there are more.
Winter destinations are Hamburg, Oslo, Billund, Malmo, Kistianstad, Ronneby, Stockholm, Copenhagen. In summer there are also routes to Berlin, Frankfurt, Moscow, Goeteborg. Most of routes operated by Air Lithuania.
Airport is very small, it has no jetways or busses and only one duty free shop.
The only thing you must do is going to Klaipeda, the third city of Lithuania. There, you have mini-bus at each 20 minutes to Palanga, departing from bus station that is in front of the railstation.
Excellent connection with all regions of Lithuania (to the main cities Kaunas, Vilnius and other towns). Direct international lines from Ryga, Liepaja, Kaliningrad and Moscow.
The nearest railway stations are in Kretinga (12 km) and Klaipeda (25 km). Buses from Kretinga and Klaipeda to Palanga go every 15 minutes.
