Panevezys Things to Do

  • Senvage pond and recreational area

The old river bed has been separated from the flowing Nevezis river and made into a pond. There are several sculptures to be seen.

  • Local lore museum

This museum is rather interesting as it features a whole variety of things. From local history to a butterfly collection and modern art in the cellar (where they used to torture people in other times) there is a lot to discover. Entry fee was 2 litas and I was told that hardly ever any foreigners visit the place. If you search for old places in the...

Panevezys Transportation

  • Narrow gauge railway

Unfortunately there are no regular services anymore but the train can be chartered. If you are a group it could be worthwhile looking into it.There is a leaflet (in Lithuanian/English/German/Russian) with prices available at the tourist office on Laisves 11.

  • Buses

It's very convenient to reach the city by bus. Unfortunately, there is no information where you can ask someone face to face. The ticket vendors are very unfriendly when someone tries to ask something. There is a kind of loudspeaker where you can ask your questions but even my local friend wasn't able to understand the answer. If you want to go to...

There are of course several churches and cathedral in Panevezys but this small Russian Orthodox Church is my favourite. There is also an old grave yard but I have not found my great-grandfather's grave. I first spotted the church when I was on the bus coming from Kaunas.

Near the Holy Trinity church which is on Nepriklausomybes square. The Russian church is on T. Tilvycio gatve.

Favorite thing: The most popular place in Panevezys is the part of the rive Nevezis, which lays in the centre of Panevezys & is called 'Senvage'.All bigger events or concerts(if they are held outside) take place somewhere near this place. There are some small islands decorated with sculptures & big trees. This is also very popular place to take wedding pics:)
