There is a restaurant in...

There is a restaurant in Vilnius that is Americanized. The food is good, but American. We went there a few times, as it was one of the better places to go. It is called Rita's, (thank you Laurike) right on the river. The first day in Lithuania, we, exhausted from the long trip ate a bit of crackers and some sort of Lithuanian dip at someone's house, then went to a restaurant where we ate the heavy and greasy food, more typical of that region. Very, very good.

'Ritos Smukle' is the best restaurant in Lithuania. It is located in Vilnius and I have to say that everybody should go there when they visit Lithuania. Prices are low, food and service is great, doesn't it sound like a dream? A must visit resataurant! This restaurant has such a wonderful Lithuanian atmosphere. The waitresses are dressed in traditional Lithuanian costumes and they have live Lithuanian traditional music there. All the food is served in those oldfashioned Lithuanian dishes. The inside of the restaurant looks like an old wooden cottage in the village. Everything about it is so special and unique. It is the best place to go and have real Lithuanian food. Zemaiciu Blynai. These potato pancakes with meat inside are delicious. They are served hot with this wonderful creamy mushroom sauce. Very good!

As a food lover I enjoyed almost every meal I had. All restaurants are good. The food mostly is traditional Lithuanian. I didn't like 'cepelinai' but I loved the meat, chicken, pancakes - 'blynai'. I would say that the products are of better quality than other countries I visited. It was a bit of the problem to understand what a plate is like as there wasn't explanations what is made of only the name of the plate. Almost all restaurants have a menu in English, only in Nida town was mostly in German. Prices are very good everywhere compair to other countries. Normal meal with starters, drinks(without wine), sweets for 5 persons we use to pay around 80 Litas(20$) what I think is very good!! I loved 'blynai' but not potato pancakes. Kids liked almost everything - from dairy products - up to 'beef on stick' - saslykai? Favorite plate: BLYNAI! mmmmmm:)) and we liked the cold beatroot soup.

Our FAVORITE restaurant is a restaurant in Palanga - '1925'The atmosphere is FANTASTIC! it is so cosy and nice inside that we went there every day! It is a perfect place for everyone. After dinner with a cup of coffe or tea - you can read a book near the fireplace(when its cold), kids can play outside as there is a play ground as well! The view - it's beautiful and a good food too.

In one restaurant west of Klaipeda, pictured here, we were served with steaming buckets (!) of cepelinai (Lithuania's national dish of meat & potato 'zeppelins) - the restaurant itself is a restored windmill!

If you have heard anything about Lithuanian cuisine, you should know the word 'zeppelins'. I am not sure about the etymology of this word, but they are shaped as zeppelins indeed. They are prepared from potatoes (this fact already says that this dish is not so ancient - as everyone knows, there were no potatoes in Europe before Columbus), rubbed and squeezed to gruel used as pastry for meat stuffing. They are served EVERYWHERE in Lithuania and in ANY Lithuanian restaraunt worldwide. Potato is a very important item in Lithuanian menu at all - all my Lithuanian friends cannot imagine a day without potatoes. Only Belarussians can contest with Lithuanians in unlimited love to this vegetable

Latte consisted mainly of milk and water and cost almost twice as much as in other cafes.Bored and unpleasant staff. Ice cream...not worth recommendation.
