Anywhere in Lithuania: Amber is worth it's weight in Gold.

by Grazina

In the Old Town in Vilnius. What I like about amber is the fact it's a Sacred stone to the Native American is some part of the U.S.A (JAV)The Lithuanian call it "the Land of Amber". In ancient times it was worth it's weight in gold. For both the Lithuanians as well as the Native Americans when wearing it it brings purification of mind, body, and spirit. Amber activates unconditional Love in mankind, stimulates the intellect. You can buy beautiful necklaces and rings or pendant, or art work made out of Amber or pictures with amber embedded or glued to the picture...whatever your pleasure is, it's there. I bought a nice movable cross with different color of ambers, it costed me 80 Litas ($20.00)

The Legendary 999

by remigia

Lithuanians are really good in making drinks. When you think of what to bring home after visisting Lithuania- TREJOS DEVYNERIOS ( 999 ) shoud be on the top of your gift list.999 recipe comes from Middle Ages- it's strong vodka on 27 (3 times 9) herbs. The old legend says that the soldiers of Vytautas, Great Duke of Lithuania, always had some 999 before battles to increase the strenght and courage....But if one had too much of the liquor and got drunk his head would be immediately cut off. Because "if you loose your head drinking- you don't need it at all".For centuries 999 was not just an alcohol but also a medicine. My own grandma took it for best cure for stomach problems:) Of course, it cannot replace real medicine when you are really sick but it works very good with minor cases. Especially, when you had traditional fat Lithuanian dinner some small (50ml) cup of 999 will help you a...

Margarita, Rasa: Lithuanian cosmetics

by aterola

Each bigger supermarket I recomend you to buy Margarita hair care products - Dilgeliu sampunas (Nettle shampoo)if your hair is dark, Alaus sampunas (beer shampoo) if your hair is blond. They have also masks for hair and balsams as well. They are cheap but really good. Also I would recomend Rasa products as creams, tonics, etc... They are also Lithuanian products. You can look for them also in supermarkets, but I think Sarma and other places have these products as well. There are soaps in supermarkets, they are made in Lithuania and they are transparents with seeds or grases inside, you can see something natural inside of soap when you look through. These soaps are small size and packed so, that you can see what is inside before you buy it ;-) Shampoo, balsam for hair might cost 5 or 6 Litas each.Rasa cream for face - 20-30 Litas

Mega: Shop till you drop

by ettenaj

Multi purpose department store, with a huge aquarium in the centre housing 800 different fish including sharks! A superb centre piece for any age, it is quite a spectacular sight. Also there is a large choice of cafes/restuarants, and a bowling alley you could spend a full day there especially if the weather is not kind. Shoes, clothes, food I bought a fabulous pain of glove leather shoes for about £11.00

Souvenirs from Lithuania

by diamond7

The best places to find souvenirs, are: Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Nida and Palanga. It's not easy to find them in the countryside, or out of summertime. The tourists visiting Lithuania have to buy mainly: -amber decorations or amber jewellery-several kind of woodcrafts-embroidered linen tablecloths -bottles of Lithuanian liqueurs and other drinks. By the way, the linen dresses, jackets, jumpers or bags are not expensive ones. The linen tablecloths and napkins are really very nice.

Surviving shops: Shopping

by vysnaite

When you see these names, know it's super market and food is there :)): main supermarket netwoorks: Maxima - Media- Minima (same network, title indicates the size of a shop, there're also Maxima Baze, Hyper Maxima, ecc.)Hyper Rimi - Rimi (in Vilnius)Iki If you bought a telephone number for a longer stay a charging card (Labas, Extra) you can buy in supermarkets, o kiosks of the press. Bus tickets are also in the kiosks. I'd suggest to search for souvenir gifts in the folk-art shop, you'll find some cute things with a good price. The same goes for amber things.

Gariûnai Market: One of biggest markets/bazaars in Europe

by Sonic747

One of biggest markets in Europe, this one has almost every type of goods in production - it would take over a day to travel to every little shop probably. There is everything - clothes, TVs, CDs (including pirate ones), used cars, shoes, etc.WARNING: there are some pickepockets in this market, thus keep your wallet in safe place. Goods are relatively cheap here, thus it is so popular (many foreigners comes here to buy things). You can bargain also.

Devil masks

by mrdarius

Many vendors in Lithuania will sell carvings of masks. Some of them may or may not represent devils. As Lithuania was the last country in Europe to Christianize over from paganism, there is still a strong tie to nature in Lithuania. Hence, wood carvings of devils. There is a devil museum in Kaunas, and when I get around it, I will make a Kaunas page and put that on it. Don't pay more than 20usd for one of these things unless it's REALLY cool.
