Silenai Things to Do
Panorama watching wooden tower is located just a few meters from village cemetery. Panorama is not from very high point, but it is possible to see meadows and forests of Silenai and river Neris embankment.
Silenai stream is located about 10 minutes walk from the church. Old people of Silenai believe that water of this stream cures, so visitors of this site tries to bring some water for home-use, drink it, put it on wounds, hurting places.
The reason of such thinking is a way how stream goes. The water ruins from west side to south or east (to sunrise side = to revival, rebirth). It is believed that such water have more miraculous powers.
Sculpture stands just at the very center of Silenai village. This triangle square could be called the junction of three main village roads. This planning is left from medieval times.
The centralized plan reminds me bigger historical cities, where you could see the same. Let say, Vilnius, Krakow in Poland, Tallinn in Estonia, so on.
Actually it is hard to say if any public transportation runs to – from Silenai. I have chosen a car for this sightseeing. From Vilnius, Pilaite district the road to Kernave side goes. Just before the village Cekoniskes there is turn to Silenai, to non-asphalt road mainly through forest. It is about 6 kilometers to come and back to asphalt road.
Silenai Off The Beaten Path
Suderve is about 8 kilometers from Silenai, reached taking road Vilnius – Kernave through Pilaite district. About ten years ago Suderve was famous just about its rotunda form church, designed by famous architect Stuoka – Gucevicius, who was an architect of Vilnius famous objects – Cathedral, Town Hall, Presidential palace.
Nowadays there is also modern Vilnoja stone park, located near Vilnoja lake, Suderve.
Favorite thing: Old wooden houses, of course, is the most characteristic in Lithuania's etnographycal villages. Actually it differs in different regions.
In Vilnius region there are no so much decorations on wooden houses, it is more monumental, full - balk style, not too much colours. Such wooden houses are tipical in Silenai as well.
