Campsites are not numerous. The majority of them are located in the most picturesque regions: Palanga (on the shore of the Baltic Sea), Trakai (lake district) and near larger towns. There are three sites in close proximity to Vilnius. Pitching a tent is permitted at the majority of Lithuanian lakes and rivers (including the National Park) for a small fee, but almost no other facilities are provided at these sites. Cross-country skiing, ice skating and toboganning are all popular winter sports; Aukstaitija National Park, in eastern Lithuania, has the best cross-country skiing trails. The national park is also a good canoeing area - trips can be organised and equipment rented from the park's tourism and recreation centre. The west coast of the country attracts large numbers of bird-watchers, especially to the town of Vente, on the eastern side of the Curonian Lagoon, which is home to an ornithological preserve. The Fisherman's Club in Vilnius provides advice on all types of fishing and arranges fishing trips in Lithuania. In the depths of winter, ice fishing is popular on the frozen Curonian Lagoon. Skydiving and ballooning can be arranged in Vilnius. There are plenty of opportunities to rent bicycles and there are some fun (and mostly flat) cycling tours. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Lithuania is a predominantly flat country, a quarter of which is covered by forests. There are five national parks and numerous other conservation areas. Hiking trails can be found all over the country. One of the highlights is the Curonian Spit National Park, on the peninsula separating the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea, where visitors can explore a range of large sand dunes and several pine forests. Rare flora and fauna are to be found here. Trakai National Park contains many lakes while Aukstaitija and Zemaitija National Parks feature hills, lakes and uplands. Leave a Comment Theme: Hiking

Sailing and windsurfing are popular on the lakes near Trakai, at Kursiu marios (a lagoon at the Baltic) and at Kauno marios near Kaunas. Leave a Comment Theme: Boating/Sailing

''With three Olympic bronze medals (1992, 1996, 2000) and a European crown over the last thirteen years, the EuroBasket trophy holders can be considered the best team on the continent. But the absence of numerous key players, including superstar Sarunas Jasikevicius, hinders Lithuania's chance of a "repeat". It would, however, be a very bad idea to write off the reigning champions.'' ''23 September 2005 Lithuania are not celebrating a medal at the EuroBasket, but rest assured, they are celebrating. The Baltic giants, less than 24 hours after being run over by France in the quarter-finals, beat Russia to qualify for FIBA World Championship 2006. The defending European champions were destroyed by France in their quarter-final on Thursday, putting them into a must-win situation against the Russians and they met the challenge, winning 89-78. ''
''Lithuania will go back home with the 5th spot in EuroBasket 2005 after beating Slovenia 79-70 in the 5-6 classification game on Sunday. Both teams will play next year in the World Championship in Japan 2006. Lithuania connected on 7 of of their 14 shots from behind the arc, while Slovenia struggled tonight from the same range with 3 out of 20.'' from http://www.eurobasket2005.com/en/cid_SbGnUV12IgwUcAUu7UmfU1.teamID_2135.compID_qMRZdYCZI6EoANOrUf9le2.season_2005.roundID_4327.html Leave a Comment Theme: Sports Watching

Basketball is the most popular sport in Lithuania and thus there are many basketball halls or just baskets. Finding with who to play shouldn't be very hard also. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: Outside basketball courts appear in most cities, also near some campings or hotels.

Not a lot to describe here only that when we went in we booked a lane for an hour at 11.00 pm as we wanted to go for a meal before hand, whilst having the meal we were discussing the price that we had been given, £11.50 for one hour, which we thought was extremely expensive as our dinner plus 3 rounds of drinks came to much less than that. We didnt go back to play as we were under the impression that because we were tourists we would have been charged a lot more. Once back home we drove past our local bowling alley and it was £8 for all day bowling!! Not sure if we were being conned but just be aware when in a foriegn country especially if you dont speak the language, and you do not have much concept of the local currancy. by DanielF With so many lakes, it is not surprising that the main sport activities for a tourist in Lithuania are the water sports. There are small boats for rent almost in every little town. Leave a Comment Theme: Kayaking/Canoeing
