Plateliai lake

Plateliai lake is one of the largest lakes in Lithuania and largest (also deepest) in Zematija (one of four ethnographic district).Plateliai lake is 1200 ha, coast is more then 37,5 km, deepest place 47 meters. In lake is 7 islands, in one of them (Pilies (castle) island) in XV century was built castle. Near lake is little town called Plateliai.This lake is very good for relax, have a picnic. Near this lake you can see lot of forests, it's one of the most beautiful place in Lithuania.Every summer there is festival "Roko Naktys" (Rock Nights)

Zemaiciu Kalvarija

One of most important religious and spiritual sites in Lithuania, Zemaiciu Kalvarija is a famous (in Lithuania and nearby countries) piligrimage site. There is "way of cross", made of 20 chapels, in hills around the town. It recreates the way Christ had to go carrying the cross. You can go through this path. Also, each year in summer, special mass is held in the church of Zemaiciu Kalvarija, to which many piligrimes comes from Lithuania and nearby countries. Mass of Zemaiciu Kalvarija (which happens at the start of July) is shown in some church art as far as USA.Zemaiciu Kalvarija litterally means "Samogitian Way of Cross", in Russian occupation times the way of cross was closed and the town renamed Varduva after river which runs through it. However unlike other such objects in Lithuania, way of cross at Zemaiciu Kalvarija quickly regained popularity and importance.Nature around Zemaiciu...

Telsiai

The capital of historical Samogia, as well as of currentTelsiu Apskritis . Telsiai is not a large city, but it is a pleasant small town and probably the best place to start your journey of the region,a s it is connected by good roads with Klaipeda, Siauliai and Taurage. The town itself is built near a lake, beutiful views of which could be seen from various places of the town. It also has church and some historical buildings. As well there is Samogitian museum in Telsiai, where you can find out about this interesting culture, it's history and today.
