Visit the Church of the Resurrection

When Lithuania regained its independence in 1918, an idea arose in Kaunas, the temporary capital of that time, to build a church in gratitude to God, as a symbol for regained freedom. Several years later, the city government donated a land lot for the construction of the church. The interior of the church was to have been with three naves, a basilica, unsophisticated architecture, laconic, rectangular. The height for the large tower was projected at 70 m., and at the top level there was to have been a chapel for St. Casimir. This house of prayer was to have held 5,000 worshippers. Up to 1940, around 1 million Litas was spent on the construction of the church. Soon the basic construction work was finished, but it was halted by the Soviet occupation.
