 | Trakai Transportation | Tips 1 - 10 of 21 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (21) Regular buses depart from Vilnius daily, stopping at Trakai bus station. From there, continue walking in the same direction that the bus was going. It's about a 15 or 20 minute walk to the castle. If you have a car, just take the A4 out of Vilnius (Savanoriu) and follow the signs. Trains are also available (8 per day) but they are not as frequent or convenient as busses. If you go to Trakai by car, you'll definitelly need a place for to park it. Parking places at the shore not far from the Castle view are more expensive. They will ask you about 5 Litas/day. If you drive a little bit further, you'll pay less, but you also have to walk more. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

A very nice way to discover the beauty of the lake of Trakai is hiring a boat. There are quite a lot of them, and it shouldn't be a problem to find one. Anyway, unless you are a blond girl, prepare to start rowing a lot! ;-) I didn't take one and just preferred to go around on my feet, but it should be a nice experience! I'm still not quite sure we took the most efficient bus to Trakai, we purchased at the ticket window because the boards did not list a direct bus there but once we got out to the platform there was one that had 30 buses listed for Trakai and they looked direct. In any case, we got on a bus going towards Alytus and it got us there all the same. The cost was 2.50 Lt going to Trakai and took about 1/2 hour. On the way back, we got on the milk run that ran through Lentvarius, it cost 3.4 Lt and took an hour. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

The best way to get to Trakai is taking the bus from Vilnius. There are really many of them and it takes about 1 hour to get there from Vilnius bus station. They are usually quite old and cheap, but they do their job! ;-) The bus station in Trakai is not very close to the castle and the main attractions, I think they are about 4/5Km, anyway, as soon as you leave the "modern Trakai", it's really a nice walk, so I suggest you to do it on foot. Otherwise there are some "shuttle" buses to/from the castle. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Many travel agencies in Vilnius organized half or one-day trips to Trakai for groups and for individuals as well but they were rather expensive - look here. But Trakai was easy accesible from Vilnius by very cheap scheduled buses and trains. My recommendation is to get there by a bus. BUS Buses to Trakai went from the main bus station in Vilnius, were frequent, cheap (pay to a driver), rather old and slow (approx. 35 - 45 min. to get to Trakai). Trakai bus station was located south of the town by Lake Luka (Bernardinai) - map here. Be prepared for about 40 min. walk to the castle on the island. Address : Vytauto 90 Tel : + 370 528 51333 TRAIN Trakai train station was located south of the town, a little bit futher from the city centre/downtown than the bus station - map here. Address : Vilniaus 5 Tel : +370 528 51055 Check your connection on European Train Timetable. Hmm... a few trains only ---> better get a bus. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

The best way to visit more than the famous castle is to walk around Trakai. Well, keep in mind that the town is not large but looong. Trakai is located on loong peninsula between the two longitudinal lakes. Buses and trains went to the basis of the penninsula which is connected at its end with a land by a bridge over Galve Lake. This lovely, old looking sailing boat, was "parked" on the castle island, just left to the entrance via the wooden bridge. There was no-one from its staff but I could read that the boat was called "Baltis" and the price was 5 (suaugusiems ???) or 10 (vaikams ???) Lt per hour... cheap... call the phone numbers shown there and below. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/BoatPhone: 8 673 73234Other Contact: 8 659 09008

The best and the cheapest way to get to the castle is to walk through this wooden bridge, on my picture. In real there were two bridges, first to a green island (Karaimka, Karvine s.) and the second to the next island where the castle was built. I do hope they will never start to charge visitors for walking this bridge. Leave a Comment

There were quite numerous boats to hire both on the island where the castle was located (easy accesible by free bridge) and on opposite shore of Galve Lake. Well, there were no fixed prices shown. Try to bargain and expect generally low prices but... as for Lithuania... not so cheap. I was told about 20 Lt per hour (first price). Well, the boats looked very pretty and reminded me boats in... Malta. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

I arrived to Trakai by my own car from Druskininkai and I parked my car at small parking lot on my picture. It was guarded and paid (5 Lt) parking located very close to the walkway to the castle on the island. I paid when I left. Well, you can park a car on a street for free a little bit futher but you must walk longer to the castle. In each country I prefer to use guarded parking lots in the most touristy places because of higher risk of car or more often car luggage thefts in such places. And Trakai, no doubts, belongs to the most touristy destinations in Lithuania. How to get to the parking lot? Look at the map of Trakai here. The parking is marked by P ---> drive straight main through street (Karaimu gatve), parking when you pass the centre-downtown on your left just after the crossroad with Traku gatve. Leave a Comment
