Look at very dirty back window of a bus which stood on a bus stop in Veisienai. I found some very dirty cars in Veisienai as well.
Well, there were (in 2004) still a few villages close to Veisiejai which were accessible exclusively by unpaved roads or better to say tracks. Public buses drove there as well.

Driving highway 134 from Lazdijai I turned right opposite to gate in white wall of parish church and I parked my car there.
The only way to visit Veisiejai was walking around on foot unless you posess a bicycle. Well, one can walk around park (Veisieju Regionino Parko Direkcija) and see/visit a church, local houses and Ancia lake.

Veisiejai was accessible by scheduled buses from Lazdijai, Kalvarija, Sestokai, Alytus and Druskininkai as well. Kalvarija and Sestokai were accesible by trains. Check your connection on European Train Timetable
The bus stop was located on main street (Highway 134), driving from Kalvarija on the left side when you pass by parish church.
There were no people waiting for a bus there and there was no timetable. The bus, I saw, looked neither modern (no air-condition) nor clean, it was dirty as you can see on my picture. Locals used buses to get to work (early in the morning, say 6.00 am - 8.00 am) and back home (at about 1.00 - 4.00 pm). I got to know that at some itineraries there were buses exclusively at those hours.

I drove to Veisiejai by my car from Poland via Budzisko - Kalvarija border crossing point. Then I turned right to highway 134 and I drove via Rudamina and Lazdijai to reach Veisiejai. Veisiejai was located in southern Lithuania, very close to both Poland and Belarus. It was 27 km from another border crossing to Poland called Ogrodniki - Lazdijai, along the highway 134 Kalvarija - Leipalingis (then by 180 - Druskininkai) and 36 km from border crossing point to Belarus (direction Hrodna).

There were very few cars driving highway 134 Kalvarija - Rudamina - Lazdijai - Veisiaji when I was driving there on sunny business day in June. But for hitch-hiking fans there were other possibilities... look at my picture. Hmm... maybe slower and less comfortable option but... more charming. I would try it...
I think that this area of Lithuania, full of lakes and empty (no visitors), maybe a paradise for backpackers who love nature and adventure (own tent recommended).

After visit to hmm... rather ugly Lazdijai it was very refreshing to stop in Veisiejai - green, small, lovely town in southern Lithuania close to Poland. Dr. Ludovic Lazarus Zamenhof (1859 - 1917),...
