I had to zoom when I was walking around the observation deck of Vilnius TV tower. And...in the middle of cement desert of Soviet-style identical grey apartments buildings I saw... look at my picture. Quite pretty oasis and sign of new times, am I wrong? More, please!
Vilnius is a very old city first mentioned in 1323. But it's fast changing recently. So, outside the old town the skyline is now dominated by more and more, fast growing, skyscrapers and TV-tower built in 1980 futher southwest.
The skyline of the old town was dominated by towers of numerous churches and futher to north by the Gedimin Mountain topped by the Castle Tower - landmark of Vilnius and Lithuania.
Among new skyscrapers of Vilnius I liked the most this one on my picture. It was made of glass and had something strange on the top.
Well, skyscrapers of Vilnius were not as high as in many other esp. American cities. You are in Europe. The tallest European building is the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt, Germany with the height of "only" 259 m (850 ft) that ranks it outside the top 50 tallest scyscrapers.
