They have various free maps available and many interesting brochures with all sorts of helpful information. The main Tourist Information Centre of Vilnius is located at Vilniaus gatve 22. Others can be found in the Town Hall at Didzioji gatve 31 and the railway station at Gelezinkelio gatve 16 . Leave a Comment

On my travels to East and Central Europe I always try to get myself the latest edition of the "In Your Pocket" guide. These guides are very up to date, provide useful maps and offer all sorts of practical information for independent travels. Most of the tips can also be found on their webpage. Lithuania is the cradle of "In Your Pocket" as the the first guide was published in Vilnius in 1991. Their office is located at Vokieciu 10-15 right in the heart of the Old Town. Leave a Comment

Lonely Planet Guide by HORSCHECK The Baltic States are rapidly developing countries, therefore an up to date guidebook is very helpful. I used the Lonely Planet Guide "Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania" which offers information for all budgets on what to see and do, and tips on dining and accomodation. Leave a Comment

*Luggage on wheels is the best !!!! *Less in more! Don't take your whole damn wardrobe here, you can buy everything you need and more here,.
1.Heels are not recommended, because you will break you feet walking in these beautiful coblestone streets. Even thou Lithuanian women seem to wear them (don't know how!) 2. NO SNEAKERS (ewww nobody wears them in europe only americans seem to.) 3. Bring an umbrella, it rains here a lot. 4. Also you need a sweater, it gets cold even in summer. 5. If you're coming in winter you need to buy the warmest coat you can find fur preffered or something super insulated. You haven't experienced winter untill you have seen Lithuanian winters (SOOOO cold) 6. In general dress nice here, because everybody does here! You will look ridiculous in shorts, sneackers and a tee.
* You can buy whatever you need here, don't need to bring shampoos, shaving gel, etc... * If you need basic toiletries go to a big supermarket like "RIMI ir "MAXIMA", also there's a cosmetics store "SARMA" in old town for makeup, shampoos., etc.. 3. If you need non prescription drugs (or prescription) like an aspirin, band-aids, look for a sign "VAISTINE". It means drug store. They're everywhere in old town.
* DOn't bring you huge cameras and wear them on a strap on your chest. IT's like a huge sign that you're a tourist. Smaller ones are better! Leave a Comment

by Gili_S Get some Lithuanian money with you, as the beer is maybe cheap but not for free ;-) (Obviously you can get some cache from the local ATM’s and banks) Leave a Comment

I think that you can find almost everything you need in Vilnius, so you don't need to bring all your things with you. Of course, if you need something extra or special, then maybe it'll be better to take it with you. Leave a Comment

During the Summer months, Vilnius can get very hot, so take thin clothes & good walking shoes - there's lots to see. Leave a Comment
