© 2004 RIC by Raimix I found this shop very interesting of it's modern architecture and lot of to see and buy. What is more, the supermarket EUROPA was opened in the fisrt days of joining European Union and the main square, called Europos aikste is like commemoration of this big event.
There are mosly all thing you need - food, clothing, technics, books, CDs and more. I should say this shop is a bit expensive, but still not so expensive like in other counties of EU.
Expenditure can really differ, it dependson it what you want to buy. For example, you shoud have more money if you want to purchase kind of clothes, clocks, technique and so on. © UAB RESOLUTIO by Raimix The shop was built about 30 years ago, it had sovietic a style before and was one of the most famous shop in Vilnius. I remember times when people were talking: "Wow, new goods appeared again in central shop!" and all were eager to know what is on sale and what the prices are. Now things shanged smartly - appeared not only new goods, but also new design and new prestige. CUP means "Centrine universaline parduotuve" in Lithuanian and it is understood as "Central universal shop" in English.
As it is called "universal", there are lot of different goods. Some as an examples: food, book-shop, wear, pharmacy, cosmetic, haberdashery, goods for leisure time, sport and so on. If you love the charm and tradition of this city, Akropolis might make you sick. But if you love shopping malls and American culture, this is your place. More than 90 stores and restaurants encircle an indoor skating rink (open:08-24) and 8 movie theaters (open:10-24). The food court features pizza, Chinese grub and Lido, the tasty Latvian chain cafeteria that makes splendid meat and potato dishes. Leave a Comment Theme: Department StoreAddress: Ozo 25

Pilies St is lined with market stalls of vendors selling all kinds of goods. It's right in the centre of the Old Town with numerous restaurants and hotels so the sellers count on tourists as their clientele. Artists display their paintings, craftsmen local crafts. The atmosphere is very pleasant and you can find some unique souvenirs like a wooden bear at his (also wooden) computer.
Amber jewelry, paintings, linen, embroidered tablecloths, original children's toys made of wood, Russian 'babushkas' and many more local crafts.
The prices are lower than in the shops. Amber jewelry is cheaper than in Poland. Leave a Comment Theme: Local CraftDirections: Along Pilies St starting from the square in front of the Russian Orthodox Church of St Parasceve.

Pilies Gatve (Castle Street) runs throught the heart of Vilnius Old Town. You can find tons of stuff here and it is usually pretty tame and safe, but don't count on more than half the things you see being real. Part of the street is covered, so people do sell here even in the rain.
You can find anything from amber and fake amber to dolls and pirated CD's. A lot of vendors will sell small trinkets and miscellaneous items. It's a good spot to find stuff like wool gloves and hats or carved statues and local artwork. Stay away from the jewelry and go someplace more reliable.
As always, when you're dealing with street vendors in a country you don't call home, expect that the price will be off. Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate..or go look elsewhere. Nice mall architecture! by Gwynethart He he he...what makes this "shop" so special...I think I am supposed to be posting a quaint little Lithuanian shop here, but actually, I am talking about a mall! Me, who usually hates malls, and my colleague who feels the same way - we were so naughty, we ended up spending hours there! Yes, I felt a little guilty, but we had been working so hard, and it was, well...fun! Celise had to buy a suitcase, so we shopped and wheeled our bounty around in that. :-) This mall is beautifully designed, with a glass ceiling stretching above, light and airy, and with pods hanging over the balconies, which are cafes. Enjoy an espresso in one - we did!
You can find whatever you need, and I think there are similar shops elsewhere in Europe, but the prices are great in Lithuania!
The prices of clothing in Vilnius are incredible, I think. There are so many great shoe stores, I wanted to go crazy! Oh well, how many cute pairs of furry boots do I need...? Really, $40 or $60 for boots? Give me a break! I bought a scarf for $3, and a hat for $3. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Konstitucijos 7a

by Dabs The first time we passed by this market was on a Monday when it was closed so we headed back here on a Wednesday and it was in full swing. We walked from central Vilnius but a guide to the Baltics says you can also take bus # 5 or # 10 across Zaliasis (Green) Bridge. The market was mostly food and clothing but there were some junk dealers, a few with old Soviet memorabilia, a little bit of furniture, some tools, basically a little bit of everything. This isn't a tourist market, it's located away from central Vilnius and is a market for folks who live in Vilnius. I always find it interesting though to go through local markets, it's something we have very little of in the US. As long as you're up this way, save your appetite for some fried garlic bread and hearty Lithuanin dishes at Marceliukes Kletis, see my restaurant tip.
