Lithuanian National museum, Vilnius
In this place in XIV century one of the oldest part of Lower Castle had stayed. From ages to ages it was changed and reconstructed to weapons arsenal. Now it is a palace with Lithuanian history museum. Some expositions change.
It is worth-seeing museum with lot of to see and cheap (about 1,1 Euro for one person and about 0,55 euro for children, students, pensioners).
It was a hot day and I was sweating and my feet were killing me, so I decided to go to the National Museum (Lietuvos Nacionalinis muziejus). At least it would be cooler there. I was right, but I also enjoyed my tour in the museum. There was an exhibition of Napoleon’s war trip to Russia and it was very interesting. The displays of Lithuania’s history begin with archaeological finds and there are collections of portraits, weapons, books, textiles, prints, coins etc. I found these displays most interesting and spent about two hours there. I especially liked the costumes and embossed leather sleigh. I left my camera in the cloak room so I have no photos to show you. :(
National Museum of Lithuania is a state-owned cultural institution which offers 7 museums/expositions to visit in Vilnius:
1. The Old Arsenal,
2. The New Arsenal,
3. The Castle Tower of Gediminas Hill,
4. Kazys Varnelis House-Museum,
5. Home of Signatories,
6. The Memorial Farmstead of Dr Jonas Sliupas,
7. The Museum of Dr Vincas Kudirka.
Hmm... I managed to visit only number 3. Next time...
There was the exposition "Lithuanian State and Culture History" inside this white building called the New Arsenal. I can't say you anything about the exposition except that it contained historical and etnographical expositions. I didn't visit it as it was closed that day :-(((. But I think it may be interesting for folks who are interested in old Lithuanian art and history of this part of our globe.
Well, long building of New Arsenal looked very impressive. It was renovated in 1958 - 1965 and again recently before huge events on 750 anniversary of King Mindaugas coronation in 2003. It was finally built in Classsical style probably at the end of 18th century. In 19th century where Vilnius was occupied by Russia the building housed military barracks.

This nice white building is the National Museum of Lithuania. It is located between the river and the cathedral, so you can’t miss it.
