The chances of getting robbed in the street are tiny. However, coution never did anybody any harm, and you're advised not to flaunt you wallet in stupid places, or announce to the entire world your huge wealth by wearing loud jewellery in quite backstreets. Theft is the major problem. Mobile phones are apt to go walkies if left even vaguely unattended in bars and other public places. Keep all pocket-sized valuables out of reach at all-times. Green-uniformed police (the rather charmingly nicknamed 'cucumbers') are supposed to be keeping the peace on the streets and usually do, but when you badly need one.. better go looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack. During the day time walk tall, look like you know what you're doing, and you won't be troubled. Leave a Comment

by Leipzig This road sign can be found on all roads in Lithuania and in the first two days we didn't know what it could mean. First I tought "tunnel ahead" or "huge pothole ahead" but as no tunnel or pothole was nearby it couldn't be. Later we noticed that almost everytime after passing that sign the speed was checked. So I guess it means "watch your speeding" Thanks to VT-Member "prleprle" who put me right. The sign means "risky part of the road ahead". Leave a Comment

Stone of the Sun by Redule It has been found. At the rubbish container. The story looks like from X-Files: the stone has been returned by mentally disabled man, which "inner voice" told him to check rubbish container. Strange... Later it appeared that he robbed it, according to experts, in a very professional way. But he was not professional enough to sell it, so he decided to return it to the museum and to get award!!!! :) My previous announcement: We all (almost all) are looking for the amber stone known as "Stone of the Sun" that was stolen from the Palanga Amber Museum this summer. Indications of the stone: The stone has the size of human head. Some parts are polished. Height: 21 cm Width: 19 cm Weight: 3.698 kg If you saw it somewhere in the grass or in the chest of a selfish admirer of stones, please contact your national or local police. Leave a Comment

alus by Redule Everybody knows that the herd of bison runs at the speed of the slowest bison. When the beasts pursue bison, they hunt up the lagging behind bison ? the slowest and the weakest. Thus, due to natural selection, the herd becomes faster and tougher. Similarly, the human brain can?t work faster than their slowest cells. During immoderate usage of alcohol, the brain cells are killed and the slowest ones are attacked firstly, of course. Regularly drinking beer, the slow cells of the brain die, therefore the thinking becomes swifter and more efficient. Lithuanians drink Kalnapilis, Utenos alus, Svyturys, Ragutis and other similar brain boosters. Be careful (of smarty Lithuanians;). Leave a Comment

The bed is made of horse hair mattress by Grazina When you approach a turn of the century hut normally there's a rope to not enter the room...so don't enter. The gentleman of this hut invited me to enter completely so that I could have my picture take. Was very nice of him. Leave a Comment

First of all I must admit all roads in Lithuania are under excellent conditions except this one road near Mazeikiai. For the first 10 kilometers the road was paved with not even one pothole but suddenly, after a curve this paved road ended in an unpaved gravel roads. Rain occured corrugation in that road which made it impossible for my tiny car to go on. We had to turn and took another road. Leave a Comment

If you avoid the district of the Train Station, Vilnius is likely the safest city I have seen in the Eastern countries. Even at night (starts at 4 p.m.in the winter)you will feel safe. Leave a Comment

by Marcin75 THE BORDER - as you can see it is pretty serious: do not try to cross it somewhere in the woods. From the Polish side everything looks so innocent, but the nice fence is about 1/2 km further on the Lithuanian territory. Leave a Comment
