In Wiltz there is a garden 2,5 ha. big and it is built by handicapped, unemployed and artists. It suprises you. Many buxus, waterfalls, iron bridges, Gaudi-look-a-like-mosaic sculptures. Very, very nice!

Castle gate

The baroque palace, built on a hill in the 12th century, was destroyed several times during the middle ages.

The castle as we know it was built from 1631 up to 1727, it took them that long because of the 30-year war.
The last count fled to Bamberg in 1793 to escape the French revolutionary troops. That is where he died as well.
France sold the building off to private persons and it has been a boarding school for about a hundred years (up to 1950) the state turned it into a home for elderly people in 1957.

Extremely well worth seeing is also the large palace park. The magnificent open-air palace staircase was built in Renaissance style.

This is what we saw through the main gate: the tourist information centre and the museum in remembrance of WW2.
