If you plan on doing a hike then you may want to visit the friendly man in the tourist office. They have a free map (photocopied sheet) of Berdorf which indicated the starting points of the hikes. Alternatively, you can buy a proper map of the hiking paths in little Switzerland. I told the man that I was from Switzerland and he gave me the postcard I wanted to buy for free. He also told me that there are 143 Switzerlands in the world and that he is planning a conference with attendees from all of them. Leave a Comment

Village town hall are always sturdy well shaped buildings. This one is opposite the church. Coming from the tourist information (tourist office or maps posted by the car park) walk past the Mairie (on your left) and then turn left. Then you are at the start of the hike we did. Leave a Comment

To get to some of the beautiful sights in little Switzerland we took hiking path B1 from Berdorf. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes or some kind of hiking boots. BTW, we didn't buy a hiking map for our 2 hr hike but I photographed the map hanging in the car park, so that we knew where to go. Leave a Comment

The hike through the Aesbech valley is very pretty and pleasant. It's shady and you can hear the birds sing. The rocky outcrop by the name of Malakof looks like a giant mushroom. Leave a Comment

If you are lazy and don't want to hike you can just drive to Perekop and park there to have a look. Perekop is a giant rocky facade which can be climbed and you can hike from there into a side valley. Leave a Comment

The tower of the church stands entirely separate. To take a picture of the tower you need to follow the main road a bit further and then you enter someone's porch. I was surprised by the mosaic in the church. Leave a Comment Directions: opposite the town hall

From the "rock" there, called "Geierslay", you would have a nice view on the Sūre valley - if the trees weren't so high! Must be perfect in winter! But at least we could see a little bit...
You can reach Geierslay if you park at Perekop and go up there. Turn left and soon you will reach the sign to Geierslay. At this sign you have to turn right - but that's of course shown on the sign itself! You now walk along the plateau until you reach Geierslay. From there, you can go to Aesbach and Labyrinth, and then back to the parking, it's a nice round that takes a bit less then 2 hours (depending of course how fast you walk).
Surely this is not the only possibility to go there, there are several hiking paths that lead to Geierslay. Leave a Comment

On the picture you see the Perekop. Several steps lead up the rock, where you'll find a platform. I was surprised to see how high we already were after climbing up the stairs! There are much more interesting rock formation to see in near environment, like Geierslay, Labyrinth and Houllay. We walked there 2,5 hours to see them. You'll find signs to the most sights there, and there are lots of marked ways.
The Perekop can easily be found if you take the street from Berdorf to Echternach. Down in the Aesbach valley, take the first parking (left side of the street), in front of the huge rocks. If you won't find an empty parking space there, just take the next one (right side) from which you can follow a path back to Perekop. Leave a Comment
