Ehnen Travel Guide

On this photograph you can see the round shape of the church. Just great how the light falls through the window!

There was very little space to make a good photograph of the church, so I only have this photograph of the outside of the church. The church was built in 1826 on the site of a small old church. The massive tower comes from the old church. In the church wall next to the right of the church there is a Gotic stone with an Ecce Homo sculpture and the date 1506.

We were very happy to find the door open. But, bad luck! inside the church they had made a glass panel....off course I made some pics, espcially because of the beautifull colour light specles on the right.

We also stopped for a walk through Ehnen, a little village. This place and the neighbouring villages were forerly administered by the Lenningen Manor, which belonged to the ecclestial authorities in Trier from 967 to 1795. The mayor's residence, the tithe barns and central administration were all located in Ehnen.On the photograph you see the tithe barn, where the levies of all the manor's villages were collected before being shipped to Trier. There was already mention of a wine-press building and church barn in the mayoral village of Ehnen in 1485. The building on the photograph was constructed by the Trier Chapter in about 1770.We wondered about for quite some time, surprised by all the lovely buildings. The streets were very narrow, so that gave an old feel.

The wine museum.After thorough renovation the former Wellenstein house became the home of the National Wine Museum. In the back of the propertie is a complete wine-making place rebuilt.As we had too little time, we did not visit it.Many tools, great exhibition and photographs, that show the way grapes are grown and how wine is produced. One can visit a wine hill, the barrel production, the blacksmith and the way weights are (??), it can all be seen in the museum.The museum is open for visitors from April 1st till October 31st. Tuesdays till Sunday from 9.30-11.30 and from 14.00-17.00.

Al Schoumesch is a typical old Moselle haus (1592) in Romanesque style with in arched entrance and a hall through which the living quarters on the first floor could be reached.BTW! it was for sale when we were there, so anyone ? ;-)

The weights and measures office. The office for calibrating wooden barrels, no longer in use for nowadays wine is sold in bottles.Almost every window in Luxembourg had those lovely flowers!
