The so called Wenzel Circular Walk is a good way to explore Luxembourg's oldest parts in about 2 hours. The walk is named after Wenceslas II Duke of Luxembourg and leads along many historic sights. Among them are the Bock Casemates, the Castle Bridge, the Grund Gate, the Wenzel Wall, the Neumünster Abbey and the Rham Plateau. The Wenzel...

The fortress gate was built in 1735. Interestingly, when we entered Luxembourg by car and tried to find the youth hostel, we took a wrong turn and ended up in a tunnel. I now realise that the tunnel went all the way under the ancient quarters of the fortress!

Luxembourg City is no doubt situated in a dramatic physical setting. There are some interesting architectural highlights and some charming streets and hidden spots. Grand Duchess Charlotte ruled in years 1919-1964 and most of all she was very popular because her will and deeds during the WW II impressed her people. I think that if ruler is good or bad should be seen in hard time and Grand Duchess Charlotte was successful for sure. In 1990 was inaugurated a great fountain at Clairefontaine Square (right behind...

This happened in 963 and the town which developped got the name Lucilinburhuc which means The Little Fortress. The region became an independent duchy in 1354. Due to its position it was very sought-after during the centuries but from 1867 on it has...

The 'Monument du Souvenir' (memorial) is a pyramide of 12 metres high. On top of the obelisk is the statue of 'Gelle Fra' (the golden woman), goddess of victory. Claus Cito, an artist from Luxembourg, made it. The monument was erected as a rememberance to the soldiers who died for Luxembourg during the wars.
