Visit the National Museum of Military History

by Paul2001

This museum does not seem to receive many visitors except for tourist with a keen interest in military history, in particular World War Two. Located in the small but quaint town Diekirch, this museum deals almost exclusively with the Battle of the Bulge which was fought right here in Northern Luxembourg. The museum has a superb collection of vehicles and armoury from the Battle. However why it wins such acclaim is for the excellent lifesize dioramas depicting the fighting and lifestyle that the soldiers on both sides had to endure. The dioramas and displays are very objective in there analysis of the Battle of the Bulge. Both the German and American sides of the battle are equally emphasised. I was surprised by the scope and size of this museum and spent over two hours in going from gallery to gallery, so obsorbed was I by it.

Tiny treasure in the green.

by Pavlik_NL

Esch sur Sure, history on and around a little hill. On top of that hill, that is surrounded by the wide circle of the river Sure, lies Esch-sur-Sure. On top of the hill are the ruines of two castles and a little church that is still rather intact. Surrounding the pictoresk place are green hills and the Sure is winding in extreme bends and curves in the deep valleys. Somewhat North-West of the village is a large barrage-dam with behind it a barrage-lake. Swinging and other watersports are frequently done in this lovely place.

River Mossel is everywhere in Luxembourg. It's the name of the local most popular beer too. Here I'm with my mum next to it... It's at Wasserbilich (sorry if not well spelled) a village of Luxembourg where you will stop if you take the wrong train to Trier :-) Nice river site, and a couple of restaurants with view to it.

Some are missing the American Cemetery where soldiers of the Second World War are buried. You find the grave of one of the greatest soldiers of all times here: General George S. Patton Jr. (Commanding General of the 3rd Army)

We took a nice walk down the street that's sort of above this valley. There are a few bridges that connect the sides. We took some pictures of the houses down below just like these (they are built down in the 'valley').
