Casino of Luxembourg

by dr.firas

Casino of Luxembourg is a must see activity, it is placed in downtown, and it is easy to find, it is the big place for nightlife, but I went back that day before night falls, so couldn't enjoy, but they say it is a great place for having fun!

In the memory of

by dr.firas

In the memory of all the victumes of the first world war 1914-1918this golden statue of the beautiful woman holding a peace sign was founded!and I thought it is too high, but it is better to be kept away from stealing in this way!

Batiment Vauban

When I talked about this monument with my French friends in Dijon, they were surprised that it exist in the North too!it is very beautiful building where there are ministery affairs...so it has the double charm: the historical stauts and the governemntal!

Joannes Origer Church-Cathedral

by dr.firas

Joannes Origer Church-Cathedral of Luxembourg is the most beautiful place in Luxembourg city!it is as great as from the inside and outside!a very special thing of this wonderful monument is the bells, they ring every 15 minutes in very special melodic way, and each time differently, a pure pleasure to hear!

yes, there's a palace guard here, too. really.

by morgane1692

He eventually must get a replacement, so that there must be an official Changing of the Guard here. But we just saw this one gentleman soldier with his rifle, pacing back and forth in front of the Palace. In case Luxembourg is invaded anytime soon, you see they are well prepared. ;-)

leave your hotel.cross the street.see the palace.

by morgane1692

If you're staying in the Olde part of town, you're in luck. In all likelihood then, your own bed and breakfast is just a few short steps away from the Royal family's. It's small by traditional European and British castle standards, but regal and looming nonetheless.

A hive of activity!

by morgane1692

I think it's probably a constant here in Luxembourg, as in many other European towns and cities and tiny villages all across the Continent: wknd markets in the center squares. Fresh flowers, vegetables, cheeses, fish, household items, it's a wonderful place to wander around and get a real feeling for the local lifestyle. Just browse if you will, and take some photos with which to amaze your friends back home, because this just isn't so common everywhere on the planet afterall. ;-)))

ECHTERNACH

by mtncorg

One of the oldest towns in Luxembourg,Echternach was the site of an important medieval Benedictine monastery. It was founded in the 7th century by the Anglo-Saxon missionary St Willibrord, the monastery reached its highpoint in the 10th and 11th centuries. The abbey was not very defensible, though, and wars caused the basilica to be burnt throughout the centuries several times - only to be rebuilt again. French invasions of 1795 destroyed the monastery again, rebuilt in the 1860's only to have the Germans reduce it to rubble in 1944 in the Bulge. The abbey has rebuilt once again as has the town, both careful to preserve the old ambiance. Combine the arcitecture with the summertime international music festival and the annual Whit Tuesday religious Hopping Procession - described on other VT members Luxembourg pages - and Echternach can claim a cultural status on par with the capital city.

VIANDEN

by mtncorg

The largest and best restored castle in Luxembourg is here in Vianden. The castle dates back to the 10th century. The castle had degraded to a state of disrepair such that in 1827 it had been classified as a ruin. Not until after the Grand Duke Jean ceded the castle to the state in 1978 did restoration take place. Not only is the castle a great place to visit, but it offers a superb view over the town and the Our Valley - something shared by a chairlift/teleferique which mounts the valley walls to a viewpoint/belvedere above.

ETTELBRUCK

by mtncorg

A small town at a major road junction lying at the entrance to the Ardennes section of Luxembourg, Ettlebruck has a museum and memorial park to General Patton, the American Third Army commander who redirected his Army into the flanks of the Nazi armies in the Bulge, bringing about their defeat and the end of Hitler.
