VIANDEN

by Aurorae

Vianden is a wonderful town near German border, most famous as a place where Victor Hugo lived and its marvellous medieval castle on the top of the hill. There is a lovely riverside promenade, cable to take you to the top of the hill (higher than the one where the castle is) from where you can enjoy a spectacular view on the town and the surrounding landscapes, tourist train that tours around the area, etc...

Ville de Luxembourg

by jacobzoethout

Ville de Luxembourg is the capital of the city, definitely worth a visit. Though the city is small, it feels like a capital, maybe because it is also one of the European capitals. If you arrive from the quiet sleepy villages in the north of Luxembourg, the capital is a nice contrast and full of life.

Mullerthal, Little Switzerland

by jacobzoethout

The Mullerthal is a nice, forested area with little streams, rocks and the highest hills of the country. A bit exagerated it got the nickname "Little Switzerland". There is a parking space, not far from a picturesque bridge over a small waterfall. In this area, many camping sites can be found.

Echternach

by jacobzoethout

Nice, historic town. It is located close to the little Switzerland region. This is probably reason why the town gets really crowded in summer, especially with Dutch people who spend there holidays in one of the numerous nearby camping places. The town is also just 30 kms from Ville de Luxembourg; it is nice to visit the place for one or two hours.

Esch-sur-Sure

by jacobzoethout

From down-town Esch-sur-Sure it is possible to climb the hill where the ruined castle is located. On the hill, it is possible to climb the old tower from where you will have a great view over the town, the Sure river and the surrounding hills.

Vianden

by jacobzoethout

This picturesque town on the border with Germany is dominated by an impressive castle on a hilltop. The 19th century French writer Victor Hugo used to live here, and loved the town and its surroundings. The house where he used to live is now a museum dedicated to him.Lots of tourists go here, so the place can get crowded in summer. The castle is nice to visit, especially for kids.

VIANDEN CASTLE

by Aurorae

Vianden castle is a very big impressive castle on the hill above the town, it overlooks entire place. There is a very nicely explained visit, with mapped rooms and guide leaflets, including a small museum and a chapel inside. I went there on a Sunday, so it was full of people, in spite of the rain.Inside is a family tree of a royal family. There isa lovely view on the castle from the cable top house.

TOY MUSEUMS

by Aurorae

I don't know why, but almost every town had a toy museum! It seems that they're very keen on them in Luxembourg! They host collections of old toys of all kinds. This one is one of the best, in Clervaux, near the castle.

HISTORY MUSEUM - LUXEMBOURG

by Aurorae

In the downtown there is a veeeeeery interesting museum that I highly recommand! It's a history museum, and the section of Nazi occupation is extremely interesting! It's very odd, full of strange rooms and formations, with sound and light effects, interactive, with Mac computer room, very modern and beautifully designed. On Thursdays from 18h to 20h the entrance is free. A man in uniform will show you in, put you in a space shuttle alike lift made of glass and send you to the museum floor. Very exciting!!! :-)

Tip Photo
MERSCH

by Aurorae

There is nothing special there, it's just a town 15' by train from Luxembourg City. People who cannot afford rent in Luxembourg live in Mersch, it's very close and convenient. The area with the fountain in the main street is lovely however!
