AQUARIUM

by Aurorae

Aquarium in Wasserbillig is a suggested place in many guides and there are directions pointing to it as if it was a really big, significant place. However, I don't know should this be a tourist trap or things to do tip. Certainly it is a very nice place to see, fish are lovely and it's surely interesting, but it's too small, the size of a decent living room of an average flat, and with just a few fish tanks, not bigger than a meter or so. The fish inside are nothing exceptional either, I mean, they're quite usual aquarium fish... If your stay in Luxembourg is short, I suggest you to skip this activity! Admission details:Open from Easter to September30 from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m..Closed onMonday. From October 1 to Easter from1.30 to 5 p.m.,on weekends and holidaysfrom 10 a.m.to 5 p.m..Closed on Mondayand Tuesday.Admission fees:adults 2 EUR

TUNNEL

by Aurorae

I loved this tunnel! It's in Wasserbillig, taking you to the river from the train station, or, just changin binaries on the station itself. It's very nicely painted! I had a very funny experience there, when I wanted to take a photo, an old man was passing by and asked me if I wanted a photo of myself. I didn't, and he thought it was because I suspected he'd run away with my camera so he was trying so hard to explain me he wasn't a thief! :-) He was a very cute, ellegant old man in his 70's I suppose, and very kind and smiling.

WASSERBILLIG

by Aurorae

A town at the very border with Germany, accessible by train from Luxembourg city (it's on the railway to Trier). The station is right on the river Moselle! There is a long, extremely beautiful promenade along the river. An opposite bank is Germany already and there is a ferry service, as well as one bridge connecting two countries. There are lots of swans and ducks and very lush green areas. Fishermen's paradise. It's also a commercial center. Near the bridge there is a mosaic panel showing the Grand-Duchy with its districts and rivers. There are also walking paths through the woods, the vineyards along the river. There is beginning of the walking trails of the Lower-Sûre and the Moselle. And the inevitable aquarium!

BUTTERFLY GARDEN

by Aurorae

It's a mini botanical garden with exotic plants, butterflies, insects and birds, in Grevenmacher. It's very beautiful, however, extremely small! it's just one room. Inside you'll find the most colourful butterflies, parrots, birds which can't fly and have a shape of a ball, I have no idea what kind of a bird is it but it looks like NZ kiwi! Maybe it was that one?! There are carnivor plants, hibiscus, orchids and other exotic flowers, etc... It's extremely HOT and HUMID inside!!!The staff is extremely kind and friendly! Open from April 1to October 15 daily from 9.30 a.m.to 5p.m..Admission fees:adults 5,50 eur ,adultsin a group 4,50 eur ,children 2,70 eur ,childrenin a group 2 eur .Butterfly garden is owned by Bernard-Massard cellars and there is a possibility of slight discount if you visit both. CAVES ST. MARTIN

by Aurorae

Another cellar I visited is Caves St. Martin in Remich, and my experience was not so positive, I've faced arrogance and hostility. The guide didn't want to let me in although I came during the visiting hours, but in fact he was lazy to make a tour for one person, but when I complained to the boss (who was very kind!), who was shocked by this attitude, I got my tour. Their cellars are more beautiful and interesting, however, they had smaller choice of wines and I preferred those from Bernard-Massard. But, unlike other cellars, they are the only ones in Luxembourg who kept the tradition of manual bottle shaking! Their cellars are dug into the hills behind. They also have a beautiful restaurant. This cellar is maybe 500-700m walk along Moselle from the Remich downtown.Open from April 1to October 31 daily from 10 to 12 a.m.andfrom 1.30 to 6 p.m..From November 1 toMarch 31 visits for groups of...

WINE CELLARS

by Aurorae

Moselle is the region super famous for its vineyards and wine cellars. I've visited a couple, and I was truly impressed! This is Bernard-Massard in Grevenmacher. They organize visit to the caves, demonstration of wine production with explication how the sparkling wine is made, a beautiful movie about Luxembourg and their cellar and wine tasting. You get to choose from several wines, I'd recommend Peach flavoured sparkling wine (!!!) I was very doubtful at first, but curious to try and it was one of the best sparkling wines I've ever had! Very bizarre! They export 75% of their wines, and they won a prize for the best sparking wine in the world, beating even famous Champagne region wines!Admission details:Caves Bernard-Massard (sparkling wine).Open from April 1 to October 31 daily from9.30 a.m.to 6 p.m..Admission fees:adults3 eur ,adults in a group 2,75 eur ,children 2 eur, children in a...

Luxembourg City

by Aurorae

Of course, the first thing you'd probably do in Luxembourg is seeing the capital. It's the biggest city, with about 90.000 people. There is the Royal Palace, lovely downtown with pedestrian area, narrow streets and colourful houses, but all with dark blue roof tops, Grund "hole" with lots of museums, galleries, chruches, restaurants, all on water channels, parks... It's a very interesting town and full of life in the summer because all the time there is something organized!
