  • Take the Bus

Being amost central in the Island, San Anton Gardens with the Governors Palace, are ideally situated for visiting all parts of the island and the cheapest way is by buses Some of these buses would appear to be museum pieces with a number being over 35 years old and almost always owner operated, but under the control of Awtorita' dwar it-Trasport...

  • Mmmm Those Cakes!

If you're in Attard for a visit and feel like a snack or something sweet and a good cup of coffee, stop by at the Santa Lucia Cafeteria - you won't be disappointed! It's always been one of my favourite coffee shops. I enjoy stopping there for a short break. Their food is always top quality. Inside the Santa Lucia it is rather small, but nice, there...

  • Melita Gardens

This place has a very good positive things about it. The ambiance, food and seating availibility as the place is big. Situated around San Anton Gardens and I guess it was an extension of the gardens. The place has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is special as it is in a very nicely decorated and well kept garden with umbrellas and...

Attard has also its own ceramic shop, called Ceramica Seracina. It is one of the oldest pottery makers on the island. The ceramics and pottery have a unique design, unlike any other in Malta.

Opening hours are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 8 am and 5 pm, or by appointment.

What to buy: There are lots of items to choose from, such as figurines, plates, vases etc.

What to pay: A little more expensive than average.

Attard Warnings and Dangers

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The streets between Attard and Balzan were quite narrow, and sometimes had cars parked along them. The bus had to go very carefully at times. At one point, in Balzan, it reached a point where it couldn't pass, a car was sticking too far into the road.
The bus driver stopped, blared his horn a few times and when that brought nobody to the car he just stopped his engine and waited.
We were there about 15 minutes before someone from a car in the queue that had formed behind had the idea of lifting the car further into the kerbside. He, I and the bus driver did this and the bus could then go on its way. It's debateable whether the car driver could get his car back out from the spot in which we left it without lifting it again.

  • Meet Cats in (C)Attard

As I had already mentioned, a large number of Attard's population consists of friendly felines. That's why Attard is the unofficial Cat Capital of Malta, also referred to as C(Attard). The cats are so friendly there that they will even tolerate one or the other dog in their territory, but only if the dogs are kind and kitty-loving.Meet a favorite...

The old core of Balzan like Liya is really quaint with characteristic alleyways and narrow streets. look up from time to time and you see many religious stautes in niches of the buildings.

  • Old Parish Church - Liya

It seems incredible that even little villages like Liya have so many churches and chapels in such a small area but thats Malta for you - one for each day of the year they say! With the Belvedere behind you and the parish church ahead then the old parish church will be on your right hand side! St Saviours church is considered as one of the...

  • Wignacourt Aqueduct

Attarrd is situated between Valletta and Mdina and being between the two old capitals was always the centre of transport and communication projects between the two. The Wignacourt acquaduct, completed in 1615, built to solve the problems of Valletta's drinking water supply, was such a project. Its remains pass through this central area, skimming...

The palace itself cannot be viewed - except by peering through the gates but its pleasant to stroll through the gardens and I imagine they must be a good place to escape the heat in the summer months.
