Nice poeple, nice cats and great weather

by chiara76

The best side of Malta apart from great places to vist are the people. They are friendly and polite and always smile to you. We were surprised how nice poeple were there! Thanks to all people who helped us, who talked to us then, who made the visit there nicer ;)Remember, people are the biggest treasure of Malta. There are also a lof of the cats which I like a lot so I took a lot of the photos of them. The other great side of Malta is the weather. Almost always it is nice. Warm and sunny days for most time of a year. We were in May so the weather was like in summer then. I know I would miss the friendliness of people there. Theis smiles and nice talks with them.

Enjoy Malta

by Bilimari

I usually go everywhere myself, and rarely take organized tour, but I'm glad that I went to pre-historical sites with guided tour. Sure, you can read about each site, and I did, too. But, guides are very knowledgeable about the sites, and usually give you something that you don't read on the guide book. Good book to read: the Great Siege of Malta by Ernle BradfordAlso, be sure to check these sites when you make a trip plan:- http://www.visitmalta.com/ - http://www.mta.com.mt/ - http://www.mtajapan.com/ (Japanese) Small islands of Malta has lots to offer: pre-historical sites, great food, lively night life, shops, casino, water sports, etc. In Malta, don't rush and enjoy the moment. I'm sure you'd want to go back there again. I know I do!!!

World War II history

by sswagner

The Maltese people have many stories to tell about the impact that this war had on the country. It was extensively bombed by the Italians and Germans since it was an Allied holdout in the Mediterranean Sea. Malta's enemies were in many directions since much of Europe and North Africa fell to the Axis powers. The bombing raids were numerous and there was an invasion attempt on the islands. Yet, Malta did not fall. The king of England awarded the citizens of Malta the high honor of the George Cross, which is a medal inscribed with the words "For Gallantry". The likeness of this medal is on the national flag itself. There are many reminders of the war on the islands. In many places, you can see holes dug into rock where people would hide from the air raids. There is a war museum at Fort St. Elmo in Valletta that has a lot of good information. A siege bell monument proudly stands near the...

Marsaxlokk. The eyes of Osiris.

by Maurizioago

Luzzus have eyes painted on either side of the prow. They are called "eyes of Osiris" (the pagan god); this is an ancient tradition. They are painted to ward off the devil and give protection to these boats.

An Elephant

by Kushelkitten

It always seems when you hire a tour the guide make jokes. Weill the joke this time was about the wild life on Comino. Malta in general has limited wildlife mostly consiting or birds, reptiles and rabbits. But there is an elephant on Comino. Well there may have been a couple thousand years ago but no real ones today only a stone one. Now the question is which way is it facing?

St. Paul's Island

by Kushelkitten

St. Paul's Island is a small island located near St. Paul's Bay on the northwest coast of Malta. This is where St. Paul was shipwrecked for three months in 59AD. On the island is a statue twelve meters high dedicated to the saint.

Dingli Cliffs

by Kushelkitten

Located on the southwest coast of Malta near the little town of Dingli are the ciffs (200m). Maybe because you are on top of them they arent as spectacular as (In my opinion) those of Los Gigantos in Tenerife but the view to Fifla is quite nice. On a sunny day with the blue sky and the blue water of the Mediterranean it is like looking at a wall of pure blue. Beautiful but its very hard to distinguish the horizon. The bus 81 will take you from Rabat to Dingli and from the closest bus stop to the cliffs (the driver will tell which stop just ask) its about a 1 km walk, maybe a little bit more. Careful going on a Sunday by bus. The buses come once an hour.

Popeye VIillage

Popeye Village aka Sweethaven is left from the 1979 movie "Popeye" staring Robin Williams which was filmed on Malta. It is situated on Anchor Bay. This is only one of many locations in the Maltese islands that have been used to film Hollywood pictures.

A small Temple in an unlikely place

by Kushelkitten

The Dolmen temple located in the New Dolmen hotel. While guide books say the hotel is on Qwara Coast Road the casino of the New Dolmen hotel is there. To get to the hotel you have to go around up the side street next to the casino and around the block. The hotel staff are very helpful in directing non-guests to the small temple in the hote garden. To get there you need to head towards the pool and the cafe.Like the other temples on the island it is roughly 4000-5000 years old. Smaller than the others but no less impressive.

Subpost Office- Bugibba

by Kushelkitten

If you forget to ask for stamps when you buy your postcards you can pick some up at the sub-post office in Bugibba located on Islet Promenade in the store Just Jase. If you are on the same side of the street as the sub-post office you will never know that this shop is where it is. There are no signs on the windows only on the awning. When you ask... and I asked at my hotel...they told me it was in Bugibba Square. I got there and no sign of it. So I asked someone there and they told me it was across from Mc Donalds. This was also wrong. It is closer to Mc Donalds than Bugibba Square though. It is located about two doors to the left of the Body Shop, if you are facing the buildings. Not far from the corner of Triq Santa Marija and Islet Promenade.
