Valletta

by croisbeauty

Valletta is the present-day capital of Malta and is situated on the eastern side of the Maltese coast. The city takes its name from the heroic Grand Master, Jean De La Vallette. The town is very beautiful with lots of interesting spots. Architecturalry, it is a mixture of the different styles, both Europeans and Arab. The Auberge de Castille palace is a head office of the Prime Minister.

The Blue Grotto.

by Maurizioago

In Wied iz Zurrieq; south of the town of Zurrieq (9 km. south of Valletta) you can do a boat trip to this grotto and to some others. The trip lasts about twenty minutes.Unfortunately I hadn't the opportunity to take some good pics of the blue sea I saw. My camera didn't work properly.

Upper Barracca

by tophat30

For the best views of the Grand Harbour and the surrounding Moslems and Knights Fortifactions, you must go to the Upper Barracca. It's very easy to find. Just as you pass the square at City Gate, turn on your right , and keep walking straight. As you pass 'Auberge de CASTILLE" , cross the road .... et voila. Good idea if you go there after six or seven. Gardens and balcony will be less crowded.

Blue Lagoon

by Kushelkitten

I just loved the crystal clear waters of the Blue Lagoon at Comino. Its the perfect place to go snorkeling. Not too many colorful fish but lots of sort of plain ones. Watch out for the jellyfish. The beautiful view of Mgarr, Gozo from the Blue Lagoon.

Kinnie

by nigelw6443

Malta's local soft drink is made from herbs. Tastes a bit strange to begin with but it is refreshing and easy to get used to! It sort of tastes like a fizzy Jagermeister? This drink is hard to find outside of Malta although I had heard of someone importing it into Germany. A cold Kinnie.

Sliema

by dowdow

Sliema is one of the busiest and most modern towns in Malta, full of shops, hotels, restaurants and cafes and is one of the most frequented spots on the island, especially by the tourists, all the week. Public transport is very frequent in this area but if you are driving your own car there is a private park in Tower Road. In Sliema there is a 3km long sea-front promenade and here you can enjoy some rock bathing as well, while further up there is also a playing field for kids and a nice public garden as well. From Sliema you can take enjoyable cruises around the maltese islands and also go to Valletta by Ferry.

Silema Strand

by Kushelkitten

Silema Strand is the harbour area of Silema. From here you can catch the Marsamxetto Ferry to Valletta, take a cruise around the Grand Harbour, and book outings to Comino or just a glass bottom boat around the island. The area is rich in shopping and dining establishments. Taking a Harbour Cruise from here around Marsamxett Harbour, Grand Harbour and the 3 Cities.

Ft. Manoel

by Kushelkitten

Manoel is a small island located in Silema Creek is named after Knight of the Order of St. John, Antoine Manoel de Vilhena. Here you will find Fort Manoel one of the many defenses of Malta built in 1723. The fort is currently undergoing reconstruction (as of 2003).

National Library

by Kushelkitten

Located on Republic Street in Valletta the National Library was the last big building project of the Knights. Built in 1796 it hold over 300,000 books. As a booklover this was a must see for me but for others they just may want to walkby and look at the beautiful architecture. The inside is just as beautiful as the outside and reminded me of a cathedral in its silence.

Shopping in Malta

by Elly01

In Malta the most populated and common places to go shopping are mostly Sliema or Valletta even though the prices tend to be more expensive than other shops in other villages. Also one can find shops in Hamrun, B'Kara, Bugibba, Mosta and Fgura. Even though these places tend to be more limited but in my opinion one can find better bargains. When I go abroad I miss the familarity of knowing where everything is. For example no one is going to come and tell you where certain shops are.For example if I need to buy something in Malta I don;t have to ask but I just think of the best place to find a good bargain ;-)
