Nightlife in Malta

by Elly01

In Malta one can find a concentration of nightlife mostly in 4 areas which are Sliema, St.Julians (Paceville), Marsascala, Valletta and Bugibba. However the most active and popular place is Paceville since there are more bars, nightclubs and discos then the rest. In Paceville we have many discos which every year are visited by many foreigners. The most popular ones are Fuego in Paceville and in Bugibba and Axis. Most popular nightclubs are Alley, Coconut, Havanna, Cube, Club Lounge, Seven Rooms, Bedouin Bar at Westin Dragonara and Sabor. However there are many other good bars too ! In Malta teenagers under 16 are allowed in bars however recently the authorities have become stricter and in some places they might ask for Identity Cards however not very often. Infact many young locals (below 16) hang out in the playground in St.Julians just opposite the Wembley taxi service since they are...

Cats cats and more cats

by Kushelkitten

I wouldnt say it was my favorite thing but it was surprising. The number of stray (and outdoor) cats was certainly not something I was expecting when I visited Malta. It took me by surprise when I entered Upper Barracca Park and saw dozens of them. As a cat lover this would normally be my fantasy but most were scrawny and under nourished. After talking to a fellow feeding the strays in the small park in Silema on Qui si Sana Place I found out that they were used to control the rodent population within the capital but now people tended to just let all their cats run regardless. These strays are so much a part of Maltese life I have even seen postcards featuring them.

NO Smoking Please!

by dowdow

Yes, this is definitely a favourite thing for me and I'm sure for many others that do not smoke... but of course not a favourite for those who smoke ...... :|Anyway smoking has been banned in Malta in ALL public places since last year. I was reading a letter in today's newspaper from a tourist complaining that this fact "wasn't advertised more widely" and so I thought I would write it here to do my share in making it more known, hoping it helps !!!!

Beaches in Malta

by dowdow

There are a number of sandy beaches which you could go to in Malta. The best beaches are in the northern part of the island, Ghadira Bay, Armier and Golden Sands, and in the south, the best sandy beach is at Birzebbugia. Swimming can be done from May to October, the hottest months being July and August. During summer most beaches have facilities to hire deckchairs and umbrellas and also sea sports hire services. I suggest you go during the week or Saturdays and leave Sunday for other activities, since they get very crowded on Sundays!* Bus Nos - Ghadira Bay 44, 45; Golden Bay 47, 51, 52; Birzebbugia 11.

Visiting churches

by dowdow

There are so many beautiful churches in Malta that you should visit. The best time to visit these churches is during the village feast because the churches would be all "dressed up" for the occassion and you can see them in their greatest splendour. Don't forget that shorts or sleevless t-shirts are not allowed in churches. Sometimes there would be someone at the entrance of the church that provides scarfs to cover up with.

On the Rock Bathing

by dowdow

If you hate the sand or you want to enjoy some diving, you can do this in many places here since most of Malta's coastline is rocky, bathing is safe anywhere, there are no tides, the sea is clean and... no big fish!!! It will be quieter also. For the best places go to Sliema, Bugibba and Marsascala.

Gozo Jeep Tour

by sandysmith

Strictly speaking this is not Malta but Gozo is such a close neighbour that I have put this tip here. Its easily reach by a short ferry crossing from harbourr port of Cirkewna - yet worlds apart in terms of atmosphere and scenery. We took a jeep safari tour of Gozo - a bit more expensive than a bus tour but the off roading allowed us to see more remote areas of this little island with its scenic gems such as the salt pans on the north of Gozo and the well known Azure Window.Little bays and harbours, neolithic temples, miracle churches and windmills..and a whole lot more. It was a real highlight of our weeks stay in Malta so please check out my Gozo page for this bumpy virtual tour.

Public Toilets

by Propermark

There are plenty of public conveniences in towns and villages across the Islands. You will find them mostly at entrances to gardens or in village and town squares. They are generally well kept and clean. There is usually an attendant and it is the custom to leave a few cents small change as a tip.P.S. the one on the pic is a toilet in China... in Malta better ones don't worry!
