Ghajn Tuffieha Things to Do

  • Environmental Visitor Centre

When I was at Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha Bay during my last holiday, I did a great walk along the coast from one bay to the other. Just in between them I discovered a (quite hidden) visitor centre of the local organisation Gaia Foundation. It is just next to Apples Eye restaurant and if you dont look for it, you wont see it, as it is very hidden...

  • GOLDEN BAY

This is the largest bay in Ghajn Tuffieha. It is a sandy beach surrounded by a number of take away food shops, offering from food and drinks to rental of beach equipment such as sunbeds and umbrellas. In this beach one can find all sort of water sports. It is usually very crowded, also at night with numerous bar b ques that light up the beach. It...

  • RIVIERA BEACH

Riviera Beach is beautiful and probably my most favourite beach. It is rather a small sandy beach, but the scenery once you are going down the stairs that take you down to this beach is beautiful.. It is also generally very quiet and usually visited by foreigners and young people.

  • Golden Bay

I stayed a the golden beach for a day and really liked it there. I especially loved to make Steve jealous, by sending him messages about huge fruit salads with ice cream on top :)The water ist still not too warm in August, so that it's refreshing to jump in every now and than. The water also is very clear and clean, the ground is sandy, there are...

  • Ghajn Tuffieha Beach

There is another beach right next to Golden Bay, which is called Ghajn Tuffieha. I think in summer it's as crowded as Golden Bay, as it's described in so many travel guides as the much quieter and less crowded beach of the area. Have a look yourself, it doesn't look really empty to me. Ok, I have to admit that it was in August when I have been...

  • Ghajn Tuffieha

Ghajn Tuffieha is the next bay along from Golden Bay. Described as being "nicer" in our guide book, we found we had to disagree. The shore had more debris on it - I guess it's not cleaned so often being less commercialised. Actually, this lack of commercialisation might be something you like or dislike - personally I thought the place could have...

Ghajn Tuffieha Restaurants

  • Don't miss the fresh fruit salads...

Therer are two places on the beach where you can get something to eat! The right one(looking from the beach) is a pizzeria and the left one is more of a kiosk, which are typical for Maltese beaches. Don't forget to try their cold fruit salads. For 1Lm you can also get some ice cream on top! Yummy! It's the perfect lunch on a hot summers day I...

  • Fresh Fruit Salads

We love these beachside places, be it here or Greece or wherever. They give an ambience to a beach and provide a pretty essential service - keeping me fed! It's a pity there is nothing else in this picture to give you a reference of scale. These fruit salads were immense, simply teeming with strawberries, melon, peaches, grapes, Kiwi... topped...

  • Beach Cafes

There are a few beach cafes at Golden Bay. The ones at the side of the beach do more in the way of sandwiches, snacks, drinks and fruit salads (see next tip) to take away, and the ones at the back do more in the way of hot meals, to eat there. The pizzas at these back-of-the-beach cafes looked lovely, though we didn't have one. Next time. Fruit...

  • Hot, Hot Sands

The sand here got VERY hot. We walked from our position to the cafe but found that we actually had to start and run, beacuse the sand was unbearably hot. We just about made it. Coming back was worse, cos we had our fruit salads so we couldn't run. Susan ended up burning her dainty and delicate little feet, and they were painful for a day or so...

  • Making Pyramids

These kids were determined to make a human pyramid and tried gamely for quite a while. They never actually managed to get the final person onto the top, though they got very close several times. It was fun to watch them try.

  • Beach Football

There's always someone messing about with a football too. Usually they end up booting it yoyr way and disturbing you, but not this guy. He was the most skillful ball player I've ever seen outside of a pro team. He did "keep-ups" seemingly forever using head, thigh, chest and feet and some pretty impressive flicks and balances too. I could have...

  • Beach Volleyball

If there's a beach there's almost always beach volleyball. Usually the players are pretty rubbish, having rarely played before, but these guys were quite good. There were only four of them, a guy and a girl on each side, but they had some pretty good plays.
