Waiting For The Race, Gharb, Gozo

Take care during the horse racing. The races we saw involved kind of one-man traps, pulled by the horses. In one race there was a locking of wheels and both traps momentarily lost control. The crowds are just standing against the walls of the street with nowhere really to hide if anything goes wrong. Susan positioned herself next to a side alley that she could duck into if the need arose.

Festa Fireworks, Gharb, Gozo

The fireworks that they use at the Festa wouldn't be allowed in the UK. They're at eye level and spin round spitting out fire, smoke and debris into any crowd that is standing nearby. And it seems to be that people actually want to get hit by these things - they stand right in line and jump around in front of them. There must be dozens of people injured by them each year. Admire from a distance.
