When in Gozo, I sometimes stop and eat at the Stone Crab restaurant which specialises in fresh fish, local dishes and pizza. This little restaurant sits exactly at the waters edge of the lovely bay of Xlendi. It's nice to sit and dine outdoors on a summer's evening at this restaurant.
10 am to 4 pm
6 pm to 11 pm
Closed on Thursdays
Open between spring and late summer
Favorite Dish: My favourite dish is Spagetti ai Frutta di Mare which consists of spagetti (naturally :-) and shellfish, such as shrimps, mussels and clams.
The owner of this restaurant, Joe, is obviously an Elvis fan because the walls of the restaurant are covered with Elvis photos and memorablia. If you look closely at the pic on the left, there is a sign above the door of the restaurant, saying " Elvis Presley Blvd"! The children we had with us were also amused by the novelty toys in the restaurant, especially a singing fish!
The restaurant is run by family members who make you feel very much at home. The food is wonderfully fresh and well prepared. The servings are also very generous.
Favorite Dish: The restaurant specialises in fresh fish dishes and is popular for its giant prawns. The mixed sea-food grill is an excellent choice for a meal.
"We're not cheap, we're good!", says a small announcement outside. The last part is certainly true and it's not that expensive actually. The couple that runs the place (Valentino and Alexandra) originate from Sicily and that fact is clearly reflected by the menu.
Dinner is served in a cosy courtyard, partly covered and heated if the temperature outside requires. Very friendly and personal service, excellent (Gozitan) wines and exquisite food.
Favorite Dish: The chef created his own recipe for a green asparagus dish from the oven which is fabulous.
Two recommended desserts are the figs filled with almonds and white Tiramisu.
I really need to try out another restaurant in some other part of Gozo than Xlendi...I keep going back there because it's my favourite part of the island.
Anyway, this is a very popular restaurant but it's not one of my favourites. I think the popularity of this restaurant is due to its position on the promenade where it has several tables outside where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine or the cool breeze on a summer's night. The service is good but I'm not too keen on the food. Having said this however, it's inexpensive and makes up for anything lacking in the meals served.
Favorite Dish: The last time I ate at the Moby Dick I chose a smoked salmon salad which was fresh but I counted just two small pieces of salmon...two is not enough for me! My friend chose Chicken with Tumeric sauce which had a small fresh salad and some chips. The chicken was very tough but the sauce was delicious. The restaurant also serves a selection of Chinese food.
For the above meal, plus two coffees and a small bottle of water we paid Lm 7.60 (around US 23.00).
We chose to have lunch on our day trip to Gozo here as we could sit on the outdoor terrace right by the sea. Inside the Ta'Nona is a small but cozy bar and the toilet was very clean at lunch time. Both bar and toilet have funny decorations.
Service was very attentive and friendly.
Favorite Dish: I ordered a Pizza Hawaii and was very pleased with the crispy dough. They also serve some Chinese dishes. I actually saw a Chinese man in the kitchen.
During our one-day trip to Gozo, we have decided to take the lunch in Xlendi. On the promenade are some nice restaurant and bars, but our tour operator recommended us the restaurant of the 4* St Patrick's Hotel.
St Patrick is the biggest hotel on the Xlendi promenade and the staff was very kind and gentle and made us have a really good time.
Favorite Dish: I have chosen fish and vegetables for the lunch and was very good. As a surprise, for the dessert, they offered us ice cream roll.
I think this is the best choice for a wonderful lunch in Xlendi.
I'm sure that all the restaurants in Marsalfon are good. We particularly like Pierre's which is on the end of the bay, to the opposite end of the Church.
There is something about enjoying a meal or an ice cold beer and sitting right next to the sea
Favorite Dish: All the seafood and pizzas are good
There was also pizza, lasagne etc, but they seemed like they would have been on the window far too long. Pastizzi looked good, and since we hadn´t tasted them yet, we took three per person, because it was 0,25e per each, and we hadn´t eat anything for last 10 hours, and the bus back to harbour was leaving soon.
In such hunger they tasted very good. But actually it was only puff pastry with cream cheese inside. I understood that there´s also some with peas.
Those were good fast food, but quite greasy. We ate coupple later at main island also. It left me thinking, how it would taste with some spices in it. Maybe herbs and garlic? Locals might think I´m crazy thinking that :)
Favorite Dish: pastizzi
Situated in St Geoges Square,Victoria, right in front of the most beautiful church on the island is Grapes Wine Bar.We eat and drink here at least once a week and are always well satisfied with either a filled baquette,Gozo cheese salad, or one of the famous Gozitan platters.
Favorite Dish: The famous Gozitan platters,either cheese,sausage,or seafood....or a mixture....one word....Delicious!
We eat on our barbecue every night. We buy excellent fresh fish (it is widely available) and lots of fresh vegetables and salads. They are all sold by local farmers or markets. We finish up with black mulberries (a bit like raspberries) which are rich, dark and juicy and simply scrumptious. The wine is not bad. If you chill it down well, its fine.
Favorite Dish: Fish, fish, fish!!
Zafiros is a bustling Italian restaurant and bar in the heart of Xlendi bay and just around the corner from St Andrews Diving Cove.
The menu is extensive and offers pizza and pastas along with a range of ciabatta sandwiches and wraps for lunch. The portions are large and chips and salad are served with sandwiches.
Zafiros also provides a continental buffet breakfast or full 'english' at reasonable prices.
Food quality is pretty average but it certainly did the best cappucino we could find in Xlendi.
This place is fabulous.
Winner of a number of awards it's easy to see why. From the relaxed ambient surroundings to the exquisite fusion menu, attentive friendly staff to the biggest wine list you've ever seen, it's somewhere not to be missed.
This fine restaurant is obviously a labour of love for the chef and patron, Patrick Buttigieg, whose culinary creations are just divine. The menu is large enough to cater for a range of tastes and offers unusual pasta dishes alongside fish, steaks and vegetarian options.
If you want to have a night eating fabulous food in a romantic setting this is the place.
Favorite Dish: We ate here twice as once is just not enough. The outstanding dish for us both was the peppered steak (medium) in a port wine and beef jus with french mustard and black peppercorns. Cooked perfectly.
See for yourself what's on offer by visiting the website where you can see the full menu.
The local gastronomy has mediterannean flavours and is influenced by the Italian style (Sicilia is close). Honestly Xlendi is not a recommended area to be on diet ;-)
With the numerous and good locals restaurants along the Xlendi strand, the temptation is high to try many local specialities as bragioli (minced beed roulade), fenek (rabbit), lampuki (kind of local bream)...
This is a fantastic restaurant - the very best we visited in our two weeks in Malta and Gozo! The menu is small but everything on it is cooked to perfection. Our family of four ate there for each of the five nights we spent in Gozo and it appealed to all of us. We ate lasagne; ravioli (all pasta home made); schnizel; Belgian stew; chilli con carne; pork stuffed with Maltese sausage; great crepes; chocolate mousse. Everything was a perfect blend of tastes and textures, the care which goes into the cooking is evident in every bite. We really can't recommend this highly enough!
The location is great too - just back from the water's edge with a beautiful view of the cliffs.
The prices are very reasonable, the wine list good - and there is a great selection of Belgian beer.
Frank, the chef/owner, comes to chat to the diners when he has finished flying around the kitchen - the atmosphere is truly lovely.
I think Xerri Il Bukkett gives the best value food on the island.Everything is there from pizzas and salads to steak and fish, and local favourites including rabbit and bragiolli. The views from the terrace are magnificent and even if you are not hungry a glass of Cisk, the local brew, goes down well. This place is an ideal stop off point for any trip around the island where you will be welcomed by friendly family staff, and if you are lucky, the family cat,Come Here who produces cute kittens on a regular basis.
Favorite Dish: Everything is good but if I had to choose it would be the Bragiolli.
