Thisis a well known land mark on Gozo at Dwejra Bay - Fungus Rock or General's Rock. It was so called due to a minute plant mistaken for fungus. This red plant with tiny flowers Cynomorium Coccineum, was once believed to have great healing powers

A very rare fungus grows on fungus rock - so rare in fact that this is the ONLY place that it grows. The fungi are apparently as big as a man's forearm and in the Knights time it was declared to have special healing powers. As such it was decreed to be for "knight's use only" and so the rock was placed under 24 hour guard!
Today it's a nature reserve and you can only look from a distance.

An anciet rock covered in fungus, that was known to have healing properties, although only accessable by boat these days as the currents are strong... you can get really close after walking over a few rocks and some large water pools.
